Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Nazare, Portugal your home away from home

Nazare is arguably Portugal’s most famous fishing town, located on the Costa de Prata in Central Portugal. Nazare is a wonderful town to visit, sweeping around the inside of a vast, sand lined bay, with an atmosphere of tradition and a pace of life that could only be described as leisurely. Colourful, wooden fishing boats fill the wide marina, which remain an important tool in the towns economy. Anyone wishing to escape to a traditional Portuguese beach town, where traditions have changed little over the centuries and the soft sands of the beach are always alluring, a self catering Nazare villa is the perfect choice.

Things to do in Nazare, Portugal

The heart of the town is along the main boulevard, and if you are staying in self catering Nazare accommodation for any length of time, the wonderful restaurants and bars along the boulevard will become wonderfully familiar. Fish is, of course, a huge speciality, and you would be extremely hard pushed to find finer fish dishes anywhere. Those that would like to try their hand at cooking local recipes from their self catering Nazare property have all the help they need, with a huge market selling fresh ingredients every morning.

Nazare beach stretches for many kilometres on both sides of the marina. Although some small parts are still used by fishermen for mending their nets and drying fish, there are still miles of completely unspoilt, soft sand on which to catch some sun. Swimming in the sea is a real treat, but water conditions can become too much for small children as when conditions are right, Nazare beach is an excellent surf spot. The town marina, just a little way outside the town, has room for visiting yachts, and is a great spot from which to go sailing, scuba diving or fishing.

The views across the bay from the top of the town are quite sensational, and there are some wonderful walks heading north from the Sitio district of town (which stands on a rock 110 metres above the rest of the town). To the north, the Atlantic coast becomes more wild and spectacular, with beaches nestled between large rock outcrops. There are some wonderful spots to fish from the beach as you go north, and although much is accessible by car, there can be nothing more relaxing than walking the coastline with a rod, stopping for a fish as you go. The climb to Sitio is a steep one from the coastal plain upon which the town stands, and for a small fee, you can be taken up on the funicular. There is a great water park in the old part of town, Sitio, with wonderful water slides and pools perfect for children of all ages.

Places to visit on holiday in Nazare, Portugal

Those travelling with small children might prefer to visit a more sheltered beach, protected from the swells of the Atlantic is the waves get up. Luckily, just a few miles along the coast is the beach of Sao Martinho do Porto, which is a stunning, unspoilt beach, mainly protected from the powerful swells of the Atlantic. This makes it a very popular beach to visit from a Nazare holiday rental property.

    Weather in Nazare, Portugal

The climate of Nazare is wonderfully steady. July and August see temperatures soaring into the high 30’s or low 40’s (˚C) on a daily basis, and although this is the most popular time to visit, conditions in June and September are only a little cooler.
