    The small coastal town of Hammamet lies in the Gulf of Hammamet steeped in history and tradition. There are many sights to see in the town and it has long been one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Tunisia. The first port of call on your trip to the town has to be the Centre Culturel International Dar Sebastian. This is a former villa of the 1920s Romanian millionaire Georges Sebastian who rubbed shoulders with many famous people including Winston Churchill. Also worth a look is The Great Mosque which was built in the 15th century and restored in 1972.

    Just outside of the town of Hammamet are the ruins of the ancient city of Pupput. Mention of this town goes back as far as 168 A.D. and it is thought that it was a satellite town of nearby Neapolis. The site has been painstakingly excavated and there are some wonderfully intact mosaics to be seen here. Visitors can also enjoy the virtually unblemished columns of the House of Figured Peristyle, remains of residential quarters and a couple of bathhouses.
