Make a holiday villa in Arenys de Munt your home away from home

On HomeAway, Arenys de Munt holiday homes give visitors the best of both Catalonia’s beautiful interior and sunny Mediterranean coast. If you want the relaxation and fun of the seaside then the sandy beaches of Arenys de Mar are very convenient to self-catering holiday rentals in Arenys de Munt. If you’d like long country walks and bike rides then there’s a corridor of natural parks belonging to the Sierra Litoral, parallel to the coast, containing natural wonders and glimpses of ancient human settlement. In between, you’ll be perfectly comfortable at your villa in Arenys de Munt, where terraces offer coastal and country vistas, and private pools add a dash of luxury.

    Things to do

-Beaches. Essentially the same town, Arenys de Mar is the local coastal resort and is a lovely former fishing town. Such was its significance that ten coastal defences were built here in the 1500s, two of which can still be seen today. The largest of the four beaches here is Cavaiò, a kilometre-long and 100 metre-wide sweep of coarse golden sand.

-Nature. The Montnegre i el Corrdor park forms the background for Arenys de Munt. On the outer edges there’s fragrant pine forests, but as you head into the park you’ll walk through oak and cork groves. You could climb Cim de Montalt for sumptuous views of the Mediterranean, or explore deeper to find evidence of long lost farms, medieval churches and also prehistoric dolmens. You can join a trail at various points from the BV-5031 road.

-Food and drink. Arenys de Munt is on the edge of the Alella denomination of origin, a wine region known for the high quality of its whites – festivals are held across the Maresme area to celebrate the grape harvest in September. If you’d like to eat like a local then you could try one of a variety of seafood soups and stews, containing prawns, crayfish and squid. At the modernist municipal market in Arenys de Mar you should also get hold of the excellent local strawberries and cherries

-Mataró. Mataró is the next big town down the coast and has a number of claims to fame. It has five gorgeous sandy beaches, accompanied by an elegant promenade. But it’s also the birthplace of modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadalfalch who added his own unmistakable touch to the town’s architecture. He designed the town hall as well as five other buildings around Matarò.

-Barcelona. Catalonia’s capital is perfectly feasible for a day-trip, sitting within 45 minutes of Arenys de Munt. It’s a place that holds something for everyone – UNESCO-listed architecture, a profusion of shopping centres and individual shopping areas, as well as culture of the scope that you can only experience in a major urban centre.
