-Beaches: The great beaches of Florida's Atlantic coast are mainly found on the barrier islands running almost the entire length of the state's eastern seaboard. With so much sand, it's difficult to find a crowded spot, but there are more secluded beaches to be found on some of the smaller islands, usually only accessible by boat.

Any watersport can be catered to, both saltwater and freshwater, as the city marks the mouth of the St. Lucie river and is only an hour from Lake Okeechobee, the largest freshwater lake in Florida.

-Nature: With the Everglades right on St. Lucie's western doorstep, there's an entire holiday's worth of potential exploration to be had. But if guests which to stay closer to home, there are numerous preserves and parks to enjoy within the city itself, including Savanna Preserve State Park and St. Lucie inlet Preserve State Park.

-Golf: With almost 30 golf courses to choose from in St. Lucie, golf-mad guests of any age and ability can be kept quite happy no matter how long their holiday has been booked for. Be forewarned, though: American golfers almost universally use golf carts to get around the links.

-Nightlife: The beach and waterfront areas tend to concentrate on tiki bars, seafood joints and brew pubs, while more eclectic fare can be found further inland. There's enough of a blend of chain restaurants and locally owned establishments to keep diners and drinkers interested.
