The panhandle, bordering British Columbia, is the warmest and wettest region and frequently has daytime highs above freezing even in winter. Juneau has around 50 inches of rainfall while other areas have up to 275 inches. Anchorage is mild, being beside the ocean, but still sees 75 inches of snowfall and has a very brief summer. The south central area has much more snow. Further inland the climate is arctic with permanent ice and freezing temperatures while the west has subarctic temperatures and more precipitation.
