The church of Santa Maria do Castelo:

This church was built on the site of a Moorish mosque and is home to the tombs of many knights. The origins of the church date back to the 13th century. The clock tower was constructed out of the original minaret of the mosque that once stood here.

Tavira Castle:

In its original grandeur, the Tavira castle had seven towers and was constructed by the Moors. Today, parts of the original wall have been worked into a reconstruction, including the "Arco da Misericórdia", one of the original entrances to the castle. A climb to the tallest towers offers a panoramic view of the city.

This charming island is located south of Tavira city and is part of the Ria Formosa Reserve.
