Make a holiday cottage in Castellet your home away from home

Castellet holiday cottages are in an idyllic landscape of vineyards, rivers and pine-clad hills not far from the Mediterranean coast. Without doubt, holiday homes in Castellet are made for wine-lovers, but the location is superb for outdoor activities, trips to Costa Dorada beaches and all kinds of interesting cultural visits nearby. In between the many excursions a cottage in Castellet will be a traditional but luxurious escape ideal for families and groups of friends. Alongside original features like terracotta tiles and fireplaces are private pools, tasteful modern kitchens and contemporary bathrooms.

    Things to do

-Natural scenery: At the centre of Castellet is the Foix Reservoir, which is surrounded by a protected landscape of moderate hills covered in forest. This is the source of a number of small rivers and a lovely place to go walking or bike riding. Next to the reservoir is the Castle of Castellet, which has sections dating to the 1100s including a defensive tower.

-Viticulture: Castellet is in Penedès, one of Spain’s top winemaking regions, and the town of Vilafranca del Penedès features several wineries and cellars to visit. The main product of this region is the famous Cava sparkling wine, and at wineries like Mastinell and Pinord visitors can get to know the process and history, as well as tasting and purchasing some of the country’s best wine.

-Beaches: The nearest Mediterranean resort to Castellet is Vilanova i la Geltrú. Here there’s a long and broad sandy bay, flanked by a palm-lined promenade. It’s a fine destination for a family day at the beach, but also for foodies looking for superb fish restaurants: Michelin recommends a visit to this town. The neighbouring Terramar Golf Club will help round off a perfect visit to the Costa Dorada.

-History: Vilafranca del Penedès also has plenty of heritage to take in. There’s the medieval gothic church of Santa Maria as well as the Palau Reial, a former royal palace that now houses archaeological and natural history exhibits. A little way west of Castellet is Santes Creus, a Cistercian Monastery from the 12th century with many beautifully maintained elements, including stone carvings, window tracery and several royal tombs.

-Day trips: Castellet is handy for a visit to Barcelona, the young, stylish and elegant city loved for the eye-catching architecture of Antoni Gaudí and home to outstanding dining, nightlife and culture. In the other direction is Tarragona, containing UNESCO-listed historical monuments and also next to PortAventura, one of the best theme parks in Europe.
