Beaches

Puerta Vallarta is known for its extensive golden sands and gentle waves. The main beaches are Shrimp Beach, High Waves Beach (although they are not!) and the Beach of the Dead. The Mouth of Tomatoes Beach is more rocky and does have crocodiles, so it is not so well frequented.

Guadalajara is known as the Pearl of the West with beautiful historic architecture in the Downtown area. The Plaza de Armas is the main square with gardens and an ironwork structure brought from Paris in the 19th century. The Cathedral and the Rotunda are the main landmarks. Guadalajara is also known for its Mariachi bands which play at local festivals.

Puerto Vallarta

Apart from the beach, Puerta Vallarta is known for Los Arcos, where birds and marine life can be spotted. The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a parish church in the city which is worth exploring. The two landmark rocks along the beach are known as the Pulpit and the Font. A stroll along the paved Malecon takes visitors past a collection of contemporary sculptures.
