-Beaches. At two kilometres, Playa d’en Bossa is the longest beach on Ibiza, and it couldn’t be closer. It’s furnished with rows of sunbeds and parasols, fringed by bars and restaurants, and offers facilities for a variety of activities including diving, windsurfing and boating. The next beach up is Figeretas, which is smaller, but with clear, sheltered waters and great views of Ibiza’s Town’s medieval citadel.

-History. Ibiza Town and its historic port is just up the coast from Playa d’en Bossa. The old town is particularly beautiful – it’s a medieval citadel, listed as a UNESCO site and boasting a tangle of old alleys that date back to the 16th Century. Within the walls is the magnificent Ibiza Cathedral, which dominates the skyline at the top of the citadel and dates to the 13th Century.

-Cuisine. There’s a range of interesting dishes that are native to the Balearic Islands. Ensaimada is a sweet, swirled pastry with a range of fillings. On Ibiza left-over ensaimada is used in a cinnamon flavoured egg dessert called Greixonera. Sobrassada meanwhile, is a soft, cured sausage, similar in taste to chorizo. Ibiza wine is also excellent and gaining recognition, with five wineries open for visits on the island.

-Outdoor activities. A great way to experience Ibiza’s natural beauty is to go off-road and take a mountain bike tour. Close to Playa d’en Bossa you can take the Salinas route, which gives you a glimpse of both the scenic interior and coast, as well history in the shape of old watchtowers along the coast. Boat charters meanwhile are a great way to reach hidden coves and see the coast from a different angle.

-Nightlife. Sant Antoni is the town that has given Ibiza its reputation for parties and clubs. There’s a host of bars and clubs, offering either raucous entertainment, or something a little more laid-back. A Sant Antonio institution is to head for the waterfront’s, Sunset Strip to watch the sun go down at nightspots like Cafe del Mar and Cafe Mambo.
