    Paxi-Paxos, Greece, awaits.

The islands of Paxi-Paxos are an island chain in the Ionian Sea, comprised of Paxos, Antipaxos, Nisaki, and Katsonisi. They are home to some of the most valuable holiday real estate in Greece, due to both British and Italian investors retiring to the islands. The islands enjoy a rich history of olive oil pressing and soap making. Though these industries have mostly been replaced by tourism, the olive groves remain, stretching over much of the islands. Paxi-Paxos is part of the Cultural Village of Europe, a trans-national organization that promotes cultural endeavours within the European Union. The Cultural Village of Europe hosts an annual music festival on Paxi-Paxos.

For larger groups, HomeAway offers a wide variety of villas in Paxi-Paxos. These villas are equipped with various different amenities including full kitchens and balconies with a view of the sea. For couples and smaller groups, the best option is a Paxi-Paxos apartment. HomeAway offers a wide range of apartments, from small cosy spaces to spacious multi-room flats for several people.

    Things to do

Gaios, the port city on the island of Paxi, is considered the capital city of the Paxi island group. This port city is actually a natural fjord, as another islet, Pontikonisi, sits directly in the bay. Gaios is situated on the east coast of Paxi and just south of the main ferry terminal for the Paxi islands.

    Water Planet Dive Center Gaios:

The Water Planet Dive Center offers diving courses for both beginners and advanced divers. Experience the underwater treasures that lie at the bottom of the seabed near Paxos. Interact with sea life and the various ruins found along the shoreline, in a safe and well-directed environment.

    Tripito Arch:

The Tripito Arch is a collapsed sea cave that now forms a land bridge to the peninsula of Tripito. This natural formation seems like an optical illusion at first glance. The arch can only be reached on foot, and is best navigated with a hiking map of the island. Visitors can walk across the arch.

    Paxos Oasis Sub:

The Paxos Oasis Sub is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. This Boston Weller submarine travels along the edges of Paxos, showing visitors rock formations, reefs, caves, and shipwrecks. Schedules change according to the season and the particular current at any given time. Groups of 13 maximum are allowed into the vessel.

    Voutoumi Beach:

Visit Voutoumi Beach, on the nearby island of Antipaxos. This secluded beach is connected to Vrika Beach (mentioned below). Voutoumi is more secluded and therefore less crowded. About 200 steps up the hill sits the Bella Vista taverna. As the name suggests, this small restaurant does indeed have a stunning view.

    Vrika Beach:

Only accessible by water taxi, Vrika beach is a popular tourist destination, with perfect sand and fantastic views. Two lunch restaurants welcome locals and tourists alike. The hike between Vrika and Voutoumi beach offers some of the most beautiful views on the island of Paxos.

    Weather in Paxi-Paxos

Summers are hot but dry on Paxos, and winters only slightly cooler (10-12°C). The Etesian winds blow most afternoons between May and October, though this mostly affects the western side of Paxos and other islands. These winds are problematic for sailors in the Aegean Sea, but ideal for those in search of perfect windsurfing conditions.

    Travel to Paxi-Paxos

Travelling to Paxi-Paxos is simple! Flights arrive into Naxos Island National Airport (JNX) daily from both Athens (ATH) and various other European cities. Then take the ferry across the strait between Naxos and Paxos. Both car-carrying ferries and catamarans run daily throughout the Ionian Sea and more often during tourist season.
