Olot holiday homes are in a place quite unlike anywhere else in Spain – and on HomeAway you can refine your search to get the rental that’s best for you. Holiday cottages in Olot cater to those getting away from it all, and anyone with a bent for outdoor adventure. At a holiday home in Olot you’ll have a rustic but contemporary space in which to unwind between revitalising walks and excursions, equipped with luxuries like pools, barbecues and substantial gardens.

    Things to do

-Natural scenery. Olot sits inside the boundaries of the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of la Garrotxa, comprising the largest volcanic landscape on the Iberian peninsula. The last eruption was more than 11,000 years ago, so there no danger here! Just around the town there are four volcanoes, including Montsacopa, 100 metres in height, with panoramic views and boasting a beautiful hermitage from the 1600s.

-Activities. Whether you’re here to hike or go mountain biking, you could try a section of the “Via Verde” that connects Olot with Girona to the east. It’s the course of a former narrow gauge railway that saw its last train way back in 1969. Around Olot there’s lots of water, with the River Fluvià best enjoyed at Els Tossols, where it runs particularly slowly and is perfect for water-based fun in summer.

-Local culture. Olot has a handful of attractive old churches, like Sant Esteve, which is from the early 1800s and known for its bell-tower, which can be seen across the town. Olot went through a lot of development in the early years of the 20th Century, which furnished the town with some lovely Catalan modernist architecture – you can admire the best examples on a designated modernist route, taking in eight buildings around the town.

-Girona. This city is to the southeast and well worth the undemanding drive. Its appeal lies in its conserved old town, one of the largest in the country and a jumble of narrow stone streets guarded by historic walls, and hiding medieval Jewish heritage. You can come to Girona to walk along the battlements or marvel at the Spanish gothic cathedral, sitting 86 steps above the city.

-Coast. Further west are the elegant resorts and stunning beaches of the Costa Brava. Roses has a catalogue of beautiful, white sandy beaches. These are either spread along the long, arcing bay in front of the town, or tucked into the craggy coastline of Cap de Creus. The waters of this natural haven contain a wonderful diversity of sea-life, and are great for glass-bottom boat rides, diving and snorkeling.

    Weather in Olot

It’s worth noting that Olot has a big gap between summer and winter temperatures – far larger than in lower-lying regions. Get to an Olot holiday cottage in summer and there will be clear skies and lots of warmth, with highs hitting 27 degrees in August. The other seasons are generally damp, with moderate warmth in spring and autumn, and either cool or mild weather in winter. In January a normal day will get highs just below 10 degrees, and lows hovering just above freezing at night.
