The capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Port Alegre hosts five World Cup matches, starting with France v Honduras on 15th June. Three days later, Australia take on Netherlands, then on 22nd it's Korea Republic v Algeria. The final group game sees Nigeria take on Argentina on 25th before the winner of Group G plays the Group H runner-up on 30th June.

World Cup accommodation in Port Alegre is largely made up of modern holiday apartments. At the top end of the market, there are sprawling pads kitted out with balconies, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, gym, concierge and barbecue facilities. Smaller spaces are available in bright, well-lit apartment blocks with access to a swimming pool and basketball court. For travellers on a budget, a number of humbler studio flats can be found in the Old Town. These are simply furnished but well presented throughout.
