Lavish in sun and turquoise waters in a Playa Blanca condo

Playa Blanca is one of the closest points to Fuerteventura. Literally translating to White Beach, this coastal region is popular with travellers looking for soft sand and gentle waves. The local harbour provides ferries that can take travellers to Fuerteventura proper in about 20 minutes. There's even a glass-bottom boat option that lets you gaze upon the marine life below as you make the crossing. Hikers can also venture to the neighbouring Montana Roja, a dormant volcano overlooking the entire region. Fuerteventura villa holidays here are relatively luxurious, especially if your accommodation is close to the water, but you can find affordable alternatives.

Things to do

All sorts will love Playa Blanca

No matter if the kids are budding adventurers with waxed-down walking boots and a desire for the wilder side of things, or adrenaline-lovers eager to hit slides and rides and babbling river chutes – Playa Blanca is ready to accommodate. The city hosts the AquaLava Waterpark, where speedy slides loop and dip and twirl before depositing shrieking youngsters into pools of water. But the town is also a fine gateway for exploring the acclaimed Timanfaya National Park, where the fire mountains and volcanos and lava fields are sure to draw a gasp.

Activities

Things to do near Playa Blanca holiday homes

It's hardly a surprise that coveted Blue Flag ratings burst from the beachfronts of this resort town. You won't have to go far to find them – just a stroll from any Playa Blanca holiday rentals on the shoreline should do it. Still, a budding sand seeker will be rewarded. Rewarded in the form of the Papagayo Beaches that fringe the nearby Costa de Papagayo. There are 5 in all, untouched, sometimes empty, backed by dunes and flecked with pink corals.

Outdoor activities

Outdoor adventure by Playa Blanca holiday homes

Finding outdoor adventure near local holiday homes is as easy as walking outside. The beach provides numerous opportunities for fun, including much more than just sunbathing and swimming. You can explore underneath the waves by strapping on a scuba suit and taking the plunge, and there are numerous diving services that are happy to help both newcomers and experienced divers explore under the sea. If you’re looking for more thrilling adventures on top of the water, you could always try surfing the waves by the more-active side of Playa Blanca Bay. Kayaking is another popular option for traversing the water, but you don’t even have to get wet for outdoor fun. Instead, you can rent an all-terrain vehicle and conquer the sandy dunes with powerful four-wheel drive.

Weather

All about the sol in Playa Blanca

Because the Canary Islands are so far south, it's likely you'll be able to find winter sun in the months of December, January and February – temperatures typically linger in the low 20s, then, while the evenings are a tad chilly. If you're set on feeling the full force of the Spanish summer and want to send the tan into overdrive, months like June, July and August are a great choice. You could even seek out Playa Blanca holiday rentals with a pool, just to be sure you've somewhere to cool off.

Natural features

From sands to geysers in Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca stretches out along the southern edge of Lanzarote. It's a resort town at heart, with rows of hotels and villas all lining a lovely length of palm-topped beachfront. You don't have to travel far to get a glimpse of the Canaries' wilder side, though. Take the Costa de Papagayo, which juts into the Atlantic with its quintuplet of sand stretches, grassy dunes, and rugged rock protrusions, just to the east. The mighty Timanfaya National Park is also right there, belching with geysers and bubbling with hot springs around rock-topped volcanos.

Playa Flamingo to the west is another shining, golden beach that’s especially suitable for children thanks to its calm waters. Key facts to know for Playa Blanca holiday homes

Before you head to one of the local holiday homes, there are a few key facts you should learn in preparation. The official language in the Canary Islands is Spanish, of course, but most people speak English and French as well.
