Things to do in Cala Romantica

Cala Romantica is a small resort town on Majorca’s less developed east coast, about 6 miles south-west of Porto Cristo. Because this part of Majorca doesn’t receive as many visitors as the developed resort areas, it’s relatively undeveloped and quiet meaning holiday homes in Cala Romantica live up to the location’s name.

-The beaches close to holiday accommodation in Cala Romantica are stunning. Cala Romantica beach as well as the adjacent beaches to the north, Cala Mendia and Cala Anguila, all feature fine, soft sand and clear, turquoise water, great for snorkelling. Each beach is situated in its own sheltered cove and while neither is very long, they’re all wide with plenty of space to bask in the sun. At Cala Romantica beach, you can hire pedal boats.

-Walking, cycling and horseback riding opportunities are plentiful in the area around Cala Romantica. A particularly good walk is along the coast to some of the unspoilt, secluded beaches to the south, like Cala Varques which is a little less than 2 miles away. Remember to take your own supplies since these beaches don’t have any facilities like shops or restaurants.

-The Coves dels Hams are about a mile north of Cala Romantica. The more famous Coves del Drach are even closer but more to the north-east. A visit to either of these cave complexes will take you to a magical underground world where the stalactites and stalagmites are even more breath-taking in the coloured lighting. Underground lakes and music add to the ambience.

-Porto Cristo is a good place to drop in to when you visit the caves but is also a nice excursion from Cala Romantica holiday villas. This traditional fishing village still has a thriving industry and you can see evidence of this when you look at all the fishing boats in the harbour. You can stock up on supplies at the Sunday market and if you see someone who looks a lot like Rafael Nadal, it probably is. His family has a holiday home here.

-JumaicaTropical Park is on the road south to Porto Colom and near Cales de Majorca, and is something you probably wouldn’t have expected in Majorca’s dry Mediterranean climate: a lush tropical landscape. The parkfeatures the island’s only banana plantation and a range of animals. Kids will love it and it’s a great place for a picnic.
