Things to do

Lefkada:

Discover the capital city of Lefkada. The town is home to just under 14,000 residents, and located on the northern tip of the island. Lefkada is about a 20-minute car ride from Aktion National Airport. The city has been home to several famous people, most notably the former shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

Vasiliki:

Vasiliki, a windsurfing center, is the perfect location for athletes and daredevils. Ocean Elements, a sailing company based in Vasiliki, books sailing lessons and tours year-round for adventurous tourists. Windsurfing lessons are also available at both beginner and advanced levels.

Eggremni Beach:

Visit the well-hidden Eggremni Beach. Eggremni is difficult to reach on foot, making it one of the less crowded beaches on the island of Lefkada. However, this beach is worth the effort; the pristine white sand and perfect view are not to be missed.

Lefkada Monastery of Faneromeni:

The Monastery of Faneromeni is located on the west side of the town of Lefkada. Built on the site of the temple of Artemis, this monastery's history and architecture come from the first centuries after Christ. Legend holds that upon Herodion's kneeling in prayer, the former temple collapsed, and the church was built in its place.

Papanikolis Cave:

Take a boat tour around the perimeter of Lefkada, and discover the Papanikolis cave. The cave is named after the Greek submarine Papanikolis, which used to hide in this cave during World War II. The crystal-clear water made for a prime vantage point. Today, there are too many boats entering and exiting to allow for swimming, unfortunately.

Porto Katsiki:

Porto Katsiki is a remote beach on the west coast of Lefkada. Though it is difficult to reach, this beach has become one of the most popular tourist spots on the island. The beach's name means 'goat' in Greek, and is named after the animals that used to receive their baths here.

Weather in Lefkada-Lefkas

Grecian summers are fairly hot and dry, while winters in Greece are mild and rainy. Temperatures reach the high-30s in summer and low-teens in winter. The Etesian winds in summer can be problematic for sailors, but windsurfers flock to the islands for exactly this reason. Lefkada also boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually.

Travel to Lefkada-Lefkas

Aktion National Airport (PVK) is located on the far northern tip of Lefkada. Flights arrive daily from both mainland Greece and other European mainland airports. Car-carrying and passenger ferries run between mainland Greece and all other major islands daily in the low season, and more often in the high tourist season.
