Make a holiday apartment in La Mora your home away from home

For a beach holiday with lots of fun for all the family, a holiday apartment in La Mora will do the trick; and then some. The location could hardly be better: the fabulous beaches of the Costa Dorada are effortlessly close, but also within easy reach of holiday homes in La Mora are the ancient city of Tarragona and the famous PortAventura theme park, which are just two of the many choices for local days out. In the meantime, a La Mora holiday home will be the bright, airy and spacious accommodation needed to imbue a vacation with peace and quiet. Included at many rentals are private pools, barbecues and expansive gardens to ensure a restful stay.

    Things to do

-Beach: Spanning the coast from Tarragona are long, golden sandy beaches belonging to a wide variety of resorts, from low-key villages to lively holiday communities. Cala Mora is the closest, and it’s fantastic, with a long, broad expanse of sand and moderate surf. Minutes along the coast are Tamarit and Altafulla, both of which are also sublime.

-Tarragona: This attractive port city was once one of the most important in the Roman Empire, and today a great deal of its Roman heritage is still intact and preserved as part of a UNESCO site. Among the various monuments to visit are the amphitheatre, circus (which adjoins to ancient walls and also houses an archaeological museum), the remnants of an aqueduct and also a former Roman quarry.

-PortAventura: Seen by many as Spain’s premier theme park, PortAventura has amusements, rides, shows and other entertainment to wow the whole family. Among the 39 rides are the Hurakan Condor, a free-fall tower 100 metres in height that can be seen from miles around. The Dragon Khan roller coaster also once held the world-record for inversions, with eight in total.

-Local cuisine: Holidaymakers arriving in early spring should see if they can get to a Calçotada, where large green onions are barbecued and then served with romesco sauce, a blend of garlic, tomato, roasted nuts and olive oil. Hazelnuts and olives are cultivated across the province, and there are farming cooperative shops selling this great local produce in most villages. Rice dishes like paella and arròs negre also make up a big part of the diet, as Tarragona is just north of a major rice-growing region.

-Recreation: Just behind La Mora is Club de Golf Costa Dorada, a highly rated 18-hole course set on carefully landscaped terrain and accompanied by a pool, childcare facilities and practice greens. A picturesque place to go walking close by is the Tamarit reserve, where pine-flanked trails snake along cliff-tops and allow lovely views of secluded beaches like Cala Waikiki.

    Weather in La Mora

The climate in the area around La Mora apartments is unmistakably Mediterranean, with long summers and soft winters. In July it’s normal for temperatures to push above 30°C and even remain higher than 20°C at night. Despite the lack of rain at the height of summer conditions are noticeably humid on this part of the Costa Dorada. The hot weather lingers until as late as October, when temperatures begin to slide down gradually to highs of 13°C by December. The warm weather usually returns in May, but there are also pleasant days as early as April.

    Travel to La Mora

La Mora holiday homes are not far from Reus Airport (REU), which is a medium-sized destination serving southern Catalonia and Barcelona. It handles low fares traffic throughout the year and is only about 20 minutes away from La Mora by road on the A-7. Taxis provide an alternative to a car and are relatively inexpensive from the airport to the coastal resorts just beyond Tarragona. The city also now has high-speed AVE train links with a number of Spanish destinations, including Barcelona, Madrid and Zaragoza.
