Make a holiday apartment in Indian River Shores your home away from home

Indian River Shores holiday apartments are located on the exclusive Orchid Island, the beach barrier island off Florida's Atlantic Treasure Coast. Set amid miles of white-sand beaches and superb golf courses, holiday rentals in Indian River Shores are perfectly positioned to access the NASA attractions of the Space Coast just to the north, and the iconic Florida Everglades a short drive inland. Equipped with all the modern conveniences to remove every possible hassle from any holiday, Indian River Shores accommodation is also handy for the numerous theme parks of nearby Orlando.

    Things to do

-Beaches: The long, thin strip of Orchid Island is never much more than a mile wide, which means Indian River Shores rentals are all very close to the beach. Stretching for tens of miles in every direction, there's plenty of space for everyone. A boat hire can take tourists to the even more secluded island beaches in the Intracoastal Waterway.

-Nightlife: The community around an Indian River Shores villa or apartment is primarily residential, but the adjacent Vero Beach has a thriving nightlife scene, with beach bars and seafood restaurants aplenty. Over the bridge on the mainland the choice gets more eclectic, with many pubs to carouse in and a wider range of dining options.

-Watersports: With the islands and channels of the Intracoastal Waterway on the landward side, and the open Atlantic Ocean on the other, Orchid Island and her mainland facilities are inundated with marinas. This offers holidaymakers a complete choice of waterborne activities, from fishing and surfing to waterskiing.

-Golf: The heart of Indian River Shores is a golfing community, with six courses within strolling distance. A short drive over the bridge to the mainland opens up at least another dozen, which means if travellers are visiting Florida to play golf, they couldn't choose a much better spot.

-Attractions: About 80 miles to the north of Indian River Shores holiday accommodation is the legendary Kennedy Space Centre Visitors' Complex, with numerous jaw-dropping attractions. Visitors can even strap into a space shot with the immersive Shuttle Launch Experience ride!

    Weather in Indian River Shores

Florida has a subtropical climate, which means the winters actually measure up quite admirably to summers in the UK, being quite dry and fairly warm. The Florida summers are hot, humid and wet, but not intolerably so, given the American propensity for air-conditioning. Winter temps max out in the low-20°C range, while the summers soar above 30°C, which compare quite favourably to other subtropical destinations. The rain falls mainly as heavy, quick afternoon thunderstorms, so when anticipated and prepared for, they don't hinder a holiday too much.

    Travel to Indian River Shores

The two main travel arteries flow through Orlando and Miami international airports, at 97 miles and 147 miles away respectively. While these may seem excessive distances to the British, driving so far in the US is really quite a routine experience, thanks largely to the low price of petrol and the exceptionally well-planned highway system. The entire country is geared towards the automobile, so a fly/drive is by far the best way to travel. There is no public transport, though there is a Greyhound station in nearby Fort Pierce.
