You’ll also be able to select the location that matches your holiday plans, whether it’s on the waterfront or just a short walk from the nearest course. In one of Spain’s hottest regions it’s no surprise to find that many Costa Calida apartments feature the additional luxury of private pools and the convenience of air conditioning.

Things to do

-Beaches. There’s a long and varied coastline in Murcia, boasting cliffs, the large Mar Menor lagoon, sandy beaches and attractive fishing villages. World-famous is La Manga del Mar Menor, the long sandy spit that separates Europe’s largest lagoon from the Mediterranean, home to some sublime beaches and first-class amenities. Calblanque is another spectacular beach, set within a regional park.

-Food and drink. Murcia is a region billed as Spain’s “vegetable patch”, and has long been known for its natural produce. On the coast dishes will include sardines, monkfish, grouper, mullet, prawns and tuna. Inland, traditional cuisine involves stews comprised of local vegetables, while pork is also a mainstay, grilled, or in the form of a variety of sausages.

-History. The port of Cartagena was a major settlement in Roman times, and you can still see remnants from this era in the form of the well-preserved Roman theatre, a colonnade and various temples. The city of Murcia has a spectacular Moorish castle, which sits atop the Monteagudo hill and offers lovely views.

-Golf. Thanks to the warm weather many of the local golf courses never close. A famous option here is the La Manga Club Resort, co-designed by PGA legend Arnold Palmer in the early-70s. Another prestigious course can be found near Mar Menor at Roda, home to a wealth of facilities and famed for its innovative, water-surrounded 7th hole.

-Rural scenery. A short drive inland from the coast will bring you to some idyllic landscapes, boasting vineyards, forests and farms, perfect for walks and bike rides. In places the scenery can be rugged, and there are numerous historic sites to seek out, such as medieval churches, hermitages and convents.

Weather in Costa Calida

Winters here are usually mild, bringing daytime highs in the mid-teens or more, and temperatures rarely getting close to freezing at night.

Travel to Costa Calida

You can get to Costa Calida apartments from abroad via Murcia-San Javier Airport (MJV), which has low-cost connections with a number of airports in the UK, Spain and the rest of Europe. In the region the A7 and AP7 Autovia and Autopista roads run adjacent to Murcia’s coastline, while the A-30 heads inland in the direction of Madrid. Most major towns here, such as Aguilas, Cartagena, Cieza and Balsicas, are on the Renfe regional railway lines, which offer a cheap and efficient service.
