    Approximately 18 kilometres to the north-east of La Asomada is the town of Teguise. This town was the old capital of the island of Lanzarote and retains its traditional Canarian charm. In fact, Teguise is credited with being the oldest Spanish settlement of all of the Canary Islands.

    A must see in Teguise is the Palacio de Marques, the oldest building on Lanzarote that dates back to 1455.
