    Things to do

-Beaches. At La Madrague’s waterfront you can enjoy a small but perfectly sheltered beach with a mix of sand and shingles. There’s also a fine selection of public and private beaches at Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. Les Lecques is the best public choice, stretching for almost 1.5 kilometres and equipped with facilities like showers, lifeguard supervision, bars, restaurants and sunbeds. If you want something more remote, then a number of hidden beaches can be discovered close by – try Port d’Alon, Plage des Engraviers and La Reinette.

-Watersports. The range of water-based activities available at Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer should suit all comers. You can embark on a cruise by 14m sailboat or catamaran to see the renowned chalk calanques southeast of Marseille, as well as the Embiez and Porquerolles islands. If you want your own adventure you can rent a sea kayak; or if you’d like to see the world beneath the waves there are scuba centres at La Madrague and Les Lecques.

-Walking trails. If you’d like to see the beautiful countryside inland then you can pick up a 2km circular marked trail from La Madrague to see traditional Provence landscapes ,with vineyards, pine forests and olive groves. On the coast there’s a 200km walking trail that extends along much of the Var coastline. It was established during the French Revolution to allow Customs Officers to better patrol the coast and spot smugglers.

-Heritage. Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer has Roman history, and at Les Lecques you can visit Musée de Tauroentum, which has a number of ancient artefacts, among them intact mosaics. Across the bay is the town of La Ciotat, which has buildings dating back almost 500 years and a number of handsome old squares. There are a number of sights from the 17th Century Grimaldi-Régusse era, including secular buildings like the old town hall.

-Local food and drink. The landscape in La Madrague’s hinterland is covered with vineyards, many of which have wineries that are open to the public for tours and tasting sessions. Much-loved in this part of Provence are the rosé wines. On Sunday mornings there’s a fantastic market in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer where you’ll be able to purchase the best local produce. Also recommended are olives and olive oil, known to be of very high quality here.

    Weather in La Madrague

La Madrague holiday rentals are set in one of the sunniest places in all of France, with more annual sunshine than places like Nice and Perpignan. The climate here is Mediterranean, but as the resort is next to the sea, conditions are tempered slightly. May through October is predictably warm and sunny, with daily highs often peaking above 30 degrees in July and August. Things cool off as the end of the year approaches and by January daily temperatures hit the low-teens. Frost and snow are practically unheard of here.

    Travel to La Madrague

La Madrague holiday homes are set between two international airports - Toulon-Hyères Airport (TLN) is to the east, while the larger Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is to the west. Both are around 45 minutes away by car. Air traffic-wise, Marseille is one of the busiest airports in France, and has plenty of connections to Britain with a variety of airlines, while Toulon has a handful of links, mostly to London. The coastal A50 autoroute links La Madrague with both destinations.
