Virtually all Gulf Beach rentals come equipped with air-conditioning, dishwashers, washer/dryers, satellite/cable TV and DVD players. Things to do

-Attractions: In Gulf Beach Zoo, captive wildlife roam 50 acres of extensive enclosures in this renewed development, having reopened in 2010 after being devastated by Hurricane Ivan. With big cats, primates, rhinos and hippos, this is a major zoo operation. Don't pass up a chance to feed the giraffes!

-Recreation: Gulf Islands National Seashore lies very close to Gulf Breeze accommodation, and encompasses the barrier islands off Florida and Mississippi. Offering perfect, unspoiled beaches with historic fortifications, wildlife sanctuaries and nature trails, it also includes the Naval Live Oak Reservation, where oak was historically grown for shipbuilding purposes.

-Watersports: Being literally surrounded by beaches and water means tourists are also surrounded by marinas, and with the city of Pensacola a short drive over the bridge, they’ll be spoiled for choice for boat hires and charters. Fishing is big here, and the moniker 'Red Snapper Capital of the World' is well earned.

-Nightlife: Pensacola Beach has a collection of restaurants, largely made up of seafood joints and beach bars; equidistant in the other direction, Pensacola itself has more chain restaurants. Gulf Breeze has a surprisingly eclectic collection of eateries, with seafood, Mediterranean and European fare predominant. Bars tend towards beachfront hangouts, while Pensacola has more typically generic American watering holes.

-Beaches: Pensacola is said to have the 'World's Whitest Beaches'; and it's a claim that's difficult to deny, as the sand’s made from purest quartz. The beaches on either side of Gulf Breeze's peninsula are calmed by the protection of the barrier islands, so the surfers typically head to the shores out there, leaving the bayside stretches for more sedate pursuits.

    Weather in Gulf Breeze

Hot, wet and humid is how Florida's subtropical climate is often described, and with good reason. It doesn't get as hot here as it does inland, however, thanks to the tempering influence of the sea, with the heat only occasionally exceeding the mid-30°C mark. Such humidity gives rise to frequent thunderstorms, which also helps in cooling things down, but does perpetuate the humidity. Winters are extremely pleasant, much like a British summer, with little rainfall and temperatures typically hovering around 22°C.

    Travel to Gulf Breeze

Pensacola does have its own international airport, but there are no direct flights to Europe. The best connections can be made via Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, or Miami, with Atlanta being the closest at 315 miles away. There is a local bus service in Pensacola and its environs, and the city has a Greyhound station, but it really is a better idea to fly/drive, as the US infrastructure is quite dedicated to the automobile. There was an Amtrak service, but it was suspended after Hurricane Katrina damaged the tracks in 2005, which have yet to be repaired.
