The charming village of Portreath lies on the north coast of Cornwall between Redruth and Camborne. Once a small fishing village, it became a bustling port in the heyday of tin and copper mining in the area. The first harbour dates back to 1713, although it has since been replaced. Boats are guided into the harbour through the notoriously difficult entrance from the building known as the Pepper Pot.

Portreath has a small sandy beach and a tidal swimming pool beneath the harbour wall. Battery Hill looks down on the beach and was once where cannons where placed in the 18th century.
