    Less than 3 kilometres to the south of Mount Standfast is the relatively busy town of Holetown. The town used to be named Jamestown but the activity of unloading and cleaning ships in a narrow channel on the outskirts of the town eventually led to the name being changed. One of the main attractions of Holetown is the Folkestone Marine Park and Museum. This centre has a wonderful artificial reef with its own sunken sea vessel which visitors can dive down to and explore. The museum also has aquariums that hold rare and fascinating examples of marine life.

    On the outskirts of Holetown is the Portvale Sugar Factory which is a must-see attraction. The factory is modern and still working but it is home to the Sir Frank Hutson Sugar Museum. The old boiling houses are home to many sugar-production exhibits that were collected by an engineer, Frank Hutson. If you visit the factory during the crop season, which is January to May, you can actually see the sugar manufacturing process in full swing.
