    Prunete is a beach lover’s dream and much of the holiday accommodation in Prunete is just a few minute’s walk from the sand. While perfect for days at the beach, Prunete is small and quiet and having a hire car will be a great benefit to allow you to explore the island of Corsica at your leisure. With nature, shopping, beaches and historical sites, you will be spoilt for choices in this summer paradise.

    -The beach is definitely the draw card of Prunete. Pristinely clean and beautifully sandy, it is perfect for sunbathing and swimming and safe for little ones too. The views from the beach are to die for.

    -The Gorges de Spelunca are near the River Porto and are one of Corsica’s great hikes. The gorges are 1km deep in some areas and have magnificent orange granite walls. The trail is partly paved and links Evisa and Ota. It was once used to carry supplies by mule to the highland villages from Porto.

    -Scandola Nature Reserve is an area well worth a visit if you enjoy the great outdoors. You will need to take one of the daily tours that leave from Porto or Calvi as the best sights can only be accessed by boat. The nature reserve covers over 1900 hectares and includes wild terrain, caves and grottes. Scandola is on the west side of Corsica and is well worth the drive from your Prunete holiday apartment.

    -Calvi is another famous birthplace to visit because Napoleon isn’t the only luminary to call Corsica home. The northern town of Calvi claims its own title as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

    -Casa Buonaparte is the ancestral home of Napoleon. Located in the Ajaccio, the home is now used as a museum. Although 100kms away from Prunete, it is a must-visit while in Corsica. Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica and is full of everything you expect from a capital as well as a lovely seafront along which you can stroll and enjoy sublime ice cream. Walk round the marina viewing the sleek yachts, the cruise liners docking or the ferries to and fro-ing between the island and Marseille and Toulouse or explore the ancient streets to admire the centuries old architecture. You might want to take a tour of all the monuments dedicated to Napoleon or visit the Musee Fesch with its collection of Renaissance paintings.

    Since Prunete enjoys temperate Mediterranean climate. This area is most busy in the high season of July and August and enjoys temperatures of up to 30 degrees celsius in the hottest part of summer. Those wanting a warm and sunny holiday are best to visit between May and October.

    Getting to Prunete

    The nearest main airport to Prunete holiday homes is Bastia and Air France flies here year round. Three ferry companies operate to the island of Corsica; Corsica Ferries, Société Nationale Maritime Corse-Méditerranée and La Méridionale/CMN. During the summer months there are up to 8 ferries a day. During winter there are around 8 per week but be warned these can sometimes be cancelled at short notice due to bad weather.
