    Things to do

-Beaches. There are some excellent beaches along the waterfront of Vallauris. At Golfe Juan there’s the small but well-maintained Plages du Soleil. Along the coast to the west is Cannes and its upmarket private beaches, which can usually be accessed for a fee. A public option a little closer is Plages du Midi, which offers sunbed hire and restaurants.

-Culture. Vallauris is known internationally as a centre for pottery. Ceramics are still manufactured here, and the man held as a catalyst for the rebirth of the industry is Pablo Picasso, who lived here in the early-1950s. There’s a museum in the town devoted to both Picasso’s work and local ceramics from a number of eras.

-Nature. As this portion of the Alpes-Maritimes coast was developed, an expanse of nature was set aside to prevent the area from being overrun. It’s called Valmasque Parc, and is right next to Vallauris. Here you’ll find more than 550 hectares of forest-clad hills, perfect for walks and picnics for much of the year.

-Dining. If you’re on holiday to enjoy some fine-dining then Vallauris’ proximity to Cannes means you won’t be far from a Michelin-starred restaurant. Being next to the coast, the seafood is wonderful, and famed local options include Nounou in Golfe Juan and La Villa Archange on the Cannes waterfront.

-History. Antibes neighbours Vallauris to the east, and features an interesting old-town. Among the monuments here are the fortress from the 1500s, the cathedral and the church towers, which date to the middle ages. The narrow streets of the old-town are well worth a wander, and are home to chic boutiques and restaurants.
