Area Overview

Set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Swaledale is named after the River Swale which runs through it. Green meadows, dry stone walls and limestone outcrops are typical of this pretty part of North Yorkshire, which is quieter than some of the tourist traps in the National Park. The peaceful and unspoilt landscape attracts many walkers and cyclists, with the villages of Muker, Keld and Gunnerthwaite providing tearooms and pubs for a welcome rest.
