Beaches: Pinarellu Beach is the closest, and it's a beauty with white sands, sparkling blue water and a somewhat unspoiled backdrop. For a little added texture, the beach is watched over by a historic Genoese Tower, one of a ring of coastal forts built by the Genoese during their period of occupation.

Regular buses link to the town if driving, (or more accurately, parking) isn't a desirable prospect. Look for the artisanal food shops and fashion boutiques.

Culture: There are too many ruins to list, but Bronze Age and Roman predominate, as do the defensive Genoese Towers, 87 of which ring the island. Guided tours are available of the citadel in Porto-Vecchio, which is now one of several museums, and the old town has some interesting galleries to explore.
