There's a reason why this city is voted one of the top destinations for travellers, year on year.

Alternatively, you could leave the city behind and head out along the forested trails to spend a night under canvas – and the stars. How to get around

Getting around Vancouver is a breeze

If you've nabbed one of the Vancouver holiday lets in the downtown area, you're in luck. It's one of the most walkable cities in Canada and you'll have no trouble hitting the attractions or the shops on foot. That said, there's plenty more to see further out, but thankfully, there are always taxis to be hailed. Alternatively, score yourself one of the rentals at the airport so you can have the freedom to explore the city and the surrounding countryside at your own pace. Then there's the clean and cheap public transport, like the TransLink buses or the overground rapid transit trains.

Food & drink

Sample the world's cuisines on the doorstep of your holiday let

More than 40% of Vancouver's population hails from outside Canada and when you get such diverse residents there's only one outcome – mouthwatering cuisine. You can hardly walk down any of the main streets in the city without tantalising aromas catching your attention and, if you follow your nose, you'll have no trouble scoring some of the most authentic Indian, Filipino and Vietnamese food this side of the Pacific. Throw in some of the most enviable produce in North America – both from the land and the sea – and there's no doubt you're going to eat well.

Essential info

Key facts for your holiday rental stay in Vancouver

To start with, it's one of the most connected airports in North America, so catching a flight into Vancouver International Airport is always a breeze, wherever you're coming from. If you're flying in from the US, or many parts of Europe or the Commonwealth, you don't require a visa for stays of up to 180 days. If you do need a travel permit, it couldn't be easier to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization visa – do it before you travel. There's always something to do and see, whatever time of year you travel, and you'll never find weather extremes, with the winter rarely falling below freezing and summers unlikely to break through the mid-20s.
