What makes this Cottage unique
reasonable cost, very near the whale boat marina. Visitors are highly recommended to try this https://www.lobosonda.com/blog/. our grandsons, ages 8 to 13 have all snorkelled with the dolphins and would do it everyday if they could. it books up quickly as they do not offer the snorkelling every day

A Great Place to Stay in a great location
This was our fourth stay in Casa Da Pedro and it is just as enjoyable now as it was when we first went.
This time we went with another couple and shared the house. The house itself is more than spacious enough for two couples with a bedroom with ensuite facilities and a separate bathroom for the second bedroom. Downstairs is one large lounge/dining room/kitchen. The lounge has a good flatscreen TV with satellite and internet TV although we connected our phones to the free wifi and streamed Netflix and YouTube for our evening entertainment. There is also a well stocked bookcase catering to all tastes.
The kitchen is well equipped with cooking facilities, microwave fridge/freezer and dishwasher with plenty of glasses/plates /pans etc.
Despite all these facilities the joy of this property os sitting outside on the veranda or around the well sized pool. Again adequate chairs/tables and sunbeams make the south aspect of the pool a really relaxing and welcoming area. The views of the Arco and out to sea are spectacular. We particularly enjoy the BBQ facility and spent several happy evenings cooking outside.
There are laundry facilities in the pool service room.
Although not an issue for us it is fair to say that people with mobility issues may find it difficult in this property.
In the local area there are several bars and eating places that we frequented and were made to feel really welcome by the locals. Of note is the MotoSport Bar and The Recanto snack bar, the latter of which does lovely meals in the evening. Both of these , and others are accessible via a short steep walk up to the ER222 and heading west a few hundred metres. There is a beer cash and carry and small supermarket along this stretch as well, which is handy.
It is short drive to Calheta Beach where there is a Pingo Doce supermarket for the bigger shop and a nice man made beach and marina.
From Arco de Calheta there is easy vehicle access to Paul da Serra where there are some wonderful lavada walks and spectacular drives to Porto Moniz and Encumeada. We also enjoyed walking up the zigzag path on the east end of the Arco to a bar overlooking Restaurant Costa Verde where a cold beer makes the stunning views of Magdelena Do Mar and the paragliders well worth the effort.
All in all a lovely place to stay with plenty to keep you occupied.
It's great to welcome back super guests like this. We are delighted that Neil felt confident enough to come back and to bring friends. We hope that this will not be the last time he chooses us. We are grateful to these guests for the news about the local snack bar. We will try it next time we go and tell future guests
Excellent holiday home.
Comfortable home fully equipped for 4 plus people. Lovely heated pool. Neighbours local and v. friendly. Only a few bars within walking distance in the village but good restaurants within 5 minutes by car. Ideal for a relaxing holiday.
Thank you for taking the time to review our house. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that everything worked out well for you. We would be delighted to welcome you back.
Basic but good
This property has fantastic views and a great pool, along side basic accommodation. it can be a little chilly downstairs (lounge/diner/kitchen) particularly in cool weather. There are no glazed windows downstairs, but only shutters so it can also be dark.
The parking is a tight, and turning the car round was very tricky. The access road is narrow.
Madeira is an amazing island, with stunning scenery. There are lovely walks, particularly if you have a head for heights. The nearest Lavada (Lavada Nova) had a few issues when we were there - the handrail had been knocked down leaving a 100m or so drop.
Nice house with swimming pool very suitable for a family stay
Spacious house, very suitable for a stay with kids. The swimming pool is great. With a nice view and relatively close by car to calheta beach.
Reception by a local friendly agency, which brought us to the house .
We recommend this house if you want to stay near Calheta on a good location.
We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and would welcome you and your friends and family back anytime
thank you for choosing our house
Carole and Geoff
Well catered for, clean and comfortable. Some niggly minor details, e.g. Hot water switch and cooker operation, could well have been eliminated by caretaker at the start. Our little Opel Corsa did struggle getting up the approach inclines with the full load.
On the whole Carole was very helpful and property is as described!
we are pleased this guest enjoyed the house. sorry about the cooker and the hot water switch we will add instruction to the house guide. Most guests do not need the hot water switch as the solar generally does a good job. Unfortunately most car hire firms rent out small engine cars which make the Madeira roads with four adults on board a bit of a challenge. the hills are amazing
Wow, what a location.
This is a lovely old traditional house in the centre of the old village of Arco de Calheta. Both bedrooms have a superb view and a wide balcony with table and chairs. Kitchen has everything provided albeit maybe a little bit of an inconvenient layout. Two doors open onto a patio and gorgeous swimming pool. The agent is really helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
It is beautifully located to explore the far west of Madeira and a number of great restaurants in Calheta, Madelana and Prazeres
We would have no hesitation in returning to this lovely home.
we are delighted this guest had a good time in Madeira and especially at our house. we love sitting on the balcony with a cold drink watching the sun go down. magical
Casa da Pedra is in the village of Arco da Calheta, situated on the south coast of Madeira, about half an hour’s drive from Funchal. The south coast has the most sun and the least rain on the island. The locals reckon that Arco da Calheta has the best micro-climate of all! It’s a quiet location but in the centre of the village. It is a perfect place for taking your rest between lavada walks
Arco da Calheta
9370-047 Arco da Calheta
The village is on a hill over-looking the ocean and with views of the surrounding cliffs and mountains. The hill/mountain to the left of the house is famed as an international paragliding place. Check out this site for more information on this exciting sport. www.bhpa.co.uk. There are local shops and cafes within an easy walk. The village boasts a new leisure centre and children's plaly park. The beach and marina at Calheta is a ten minute drive. The marina offers private hire deep sea fishing. There are several restaurants within easy driving distance
try this and see if you like it
Funchal and all it has to offer is but a short drive as are two golf courses which offer challenging golf for beginner or professional alike
