This property has amazing views and if you’re in shape- it’s in a great location. It’s easily a five minute steep hike to arrive to it. We had no problem, but anyone with mobility issues should look for something else. Also the unit has 4 levels with steep stairs. So why three stars? I use VRBO often and have stayed in multiple units in the past. I had read some of the negative comments about this unit in previous reviews and thought, no big deal. What is a big deal is when the host ignores guests concerns and recommendations. I knew my concerns would go unheard as they had already been voiced and nothing was done. Disappointing, as it is simple to fix and can make a big difference for the guests. Here is what made our stay 3 stars: 1. The downstairs level is very musty. We were a party of 4, so luckily no one had to stay down there. The couches are filthy- one was stained with what looked looked like blood. 2. The fans are encrusted with dust. They truly need a scrubbing. 3. There are not enough towels! We swam one day and then had nothing for our showers. Beach towels would be nice. 4. The shower curtains are extremely moldy. 5. The unit was not cleaned properly. The floors and stairs were dirty. Roach or mouse droppings were evident on the window ledges.
Normally I contact the host first with these types of recommendations, but since they had already been voiced, I find it only fair to let future potential renters know of these problems that are going ignored.
Also- there is no A/C. We knew this but if it’s important to you, look elsewhere.
On a positive note- the rooftop was magical.
amazing views, great location, interesting house built into the side of the cliff
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. It was a little challenging moving between the five stories of it (including the rooftop deck where we enjoyed dinner nightly) because we are tall and the stairs are small but it was worth the challenge and it had everything we needed.
Holiday in Cinque Terre
Cleanliness of the property was excellent .There are only two comments that I would like to make. I think that we should have been provided with two bath towels per person and the fans should be cleaned on a more regular basis.
Apart from those minor issues we did love our stay and the staff at the agency were very helpful with the enquires that we had with them.
Thanks for your review....Lovely to hear you had a great stay and that my Management Company looked after you well.
The property was absolutely incredible. Jo answered every question promptly. Thank you Jo.
The views from this room are incredible, I hate to write something positive just to keep the place to ourselves.
Unfortunately we visited during the record breaking heat wave and our only disappointment was there was no AC and no ocean breeze made life tough. The weather was not JO's fault.
The home was well stocked, clean and had everything you would need.
We do not think you will find a better place to stay in Manrola or anywhere in Cinque Terre.
Thank you Jo for having us, my only regret was I forgot to sign your guest book.
Did I mention the views are INCREDIBLE?
First class property
Jo has provided an amazing property in an indescribable location
She had furnished her beautiful property in a classy Italian manner. We can’t say enough about her amazing home and extra special gift.
Jo, thank you for creating memories for a lifetime!

We absolutely loved our stay in Manarola. The house is super quirky and really met our needs for our trip. We loved sharing a bottle of wine on the terrace each evening and really appreciated having laundry access as well as a drying stand. We didn’t have any issues with the hills and we found we didn’t utilize the ground floor as the other three floors had everything we needed. The check-in/check-out process was easy.
The only issues we encountered were minimal: main shower had hair from previous tenant, second floor shower head sprayed all over the floor, and the dishwasher seemed either jammed or the handle was broken so we had to hand wash. None of this deterred from our visit though, just chalked it up to the quirkinesses of the home.
My only recommendation would be to provide different bins for garbage/recycling collection. We only had one garbage can in the entire house and it was designated for paper. This made disposing of material a bit challenging. We also didn’t notice the collection days until we had already passed a couple pick-ups.
All-in-all it was a wonderful trip and we would not have changed our choice of accommodation at all! Beautiful space, amazing views, and friendly greetings. Grazie Mille!
The unique landscape of the Cinque Terre (the five lands) was listed by UNESCO in 1998 as a World Heritage Site. The National Park now protects the landscape and encourages conservation of the dry stone walls built to cultivate vineyards on the steep terraces that slope down to the sea. The crystal clear waters of the Cinque Terre were made a Marine Protected Area in 1997 to protect the rocky seabed, the habitat of a diverse range of coral. The village of Manarola dates back to the 12th century, and the area remains famous for its white wine, pesto and anchovies. As vehicles are not permitted in Manarola, travel to and within the Cinque Terre is best by train, boat or by foot. The purchase of a Cinque Terre Card issued by the National Park enables unlimited use of the trains, buses and paths within the area. The best beaches are at Monterosso and Bonassola which are reached easily from Manarola. However, it is possible to swim off the rocks in Manarola.
Other Activities: kayaking.
My management company that are also based in Manarola, will meet and greet you and show you around the property. They can provide you with information on the local area along with arranging scenic flights, guided hikes, sailing, cookery lessons and a visit to a vineyard.
