Charming Villa, Sleeps 9. Perfect spot to explore The Peloponnese and relax!
- English, French, Spanish
Hi. I am Sara. I am British but have called beautiful Greece my home for the past 20 years. I speak English ( of course!), Greek, Spanish and French so hopefully you can find a way to ask me any questions that you may have!
Owner purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Owner chose Nafplion
Tolo was just a fishing village some(!) years ago where my husband spent his Summers growing up. He spoke to me of his love of the beautiful bay, of the uniqueness of Old Nafplion nearby, of the hospitality of the locals and their appreciation of the valuable things in life - health, family, food and good times.....in that order! As a Brit, living in Athens, I knew very quickly, that we needed a "hideaway" from the hustle and bustle of city life and so we purchased Villa Amelia, very close to Tolo, at the edge of the village of Asini. We absolutely love to leave our busy lives back in Athens and escape to Villa Amelia where we can enjoy wonderful swimming in the Aegean Sea, spend afternoons watching the views from the terrace and evenings exploring more hidden alleyways in Nafplion or simply loving a great meal on the beach in Tolo.
What makes this Villa unique
What can be better than opening your balcony doors to the sound of the birds singing and a view across the country-side where the colours change continually. As a Brit with many years living in Greece I am still entranced by the beauty of the Greek landscape. Our villa allows us to enjoy some lovely vistas whilst not being at all isolated. Moreover, choices of how to pass each day are numerous. One day we will laze away our time at one of the lovely beaches; the following day we may choose to visit one of the many incredible historical sites of the area. Sometimes we want to explore the local sea by hiring a little boat and on other occasions we venture a little further and spend the day on the island of Spetses or Hydra. Being just a 2 hour ( beautiful) drive from Athens is an added bonus. We do not have to think about the volatile weather on the islands and check out ferry time tables or book flights. We just jump in the car and enjoy the views on the drive down.
We know you are not on holiday to clean but kindly ask that rubbish is removed and washing up done on departure.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Well worth it
Great property definitely quality. Are planning to return next year
Thanks you so much Anthony for your kind comments.
Very happy that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Amelia and we look forward to hosting you again next year.
Villa needs updating all around
Positive - villa is located in a close proximity to Nafplion town, yet it is very peaceful and quiet at the villa. View from the terrace and balcony is outstanding.
Villa is very dated.
Furniture is old, beat up and uncomfortable. Hard to sleep on such narrow beds with cheap mattresses.
Most importantly - the bathrooms are completely misrepresented in the listing. Out of three bathrooms only one has a standing shower. That shower head is rusty...
One of the showers is for pets, not humans. It is the size of a small cat. My very tiny friend was trying to use it and she said it could be used if a person is size 0, gets on her knees and bends over to reach the shower.
I am submitting photos to Home Away for the complete transparency.
In general, we liked the area. Beaches listed by the owner are near by, but those are crowded with loud music. A short 10-15 minutes drive gets you to a more tranquil beach setting.
Epidavros is a short 30+ min drive away.
I was most saddened to read your review of Villa Amelia as we do everything to ensure that our guests have a very enjoyable stay.
It is very strange that you addressed none of these comments during your stay as we would have addressed any real issue that you had.
Your only request during your stay was for us to ensure that the temperature of the house should be no more than 70 degrees farenheit on your return from excursions - I did explain that this would be impossible as you were renting a private villa.
I am heartened that the review we received immediately after your stay was entirely positive and that they plan to return to stay at Villa Amelia again next year.
Beautiful and spacious villa near Nafplio
We enjoyed our stay in this spacious, comfortable villa that was conveniently located near Nafplio. I gave 4 stars because we had two family members with mobility issues - and the stairs (to the bedrooms upstairs and down to the studio and pool on the ground level) were a serious challenge. For the rest of us it was very comfortable.
The bedrooms were beautiful, the bathrooms as well. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything one could need. We were 8 in our family and enjoyed sitting (and eating) on the terrace that has a fantastic sunshade, as well as at the dining table indoors. Be sure to do your shopping at the supermarket as our hostess suggests, because you will want to spend time here! Buy basics too -- lots of water, toilet paper, paper towels etc. We found the whole villa very clean - and so it is worthwhile having a cleaning fee! This is a great place!
So glad, Sylvia, that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Amelia and thank you for your lovely comments.
I am sorry that you found the stairs presented a difficulty. We do show photographs on our listing of both sets of stairs in case people have a mobility issue.
We do try to make sure that the kitchen is well equipped so happy that you found everything that you needed and our cleaners work hard to make sure that everything is sparkly!
Many thanks again for choosing us.
Family holiday at villa Amelia
Well equipped family villa. Studio great for couple who needed time on their own. Perfect pool for hot afternoons. Old capital of Nafphion interesting to visit. Also recommend boat trip to Hydra and Spetses brilliant day. Nearby Tolon lovely safe beach and sea. Very unspoilt typically Greek. Lots of great eating places and very reasonably priced. Great location for family holiday.
Fabulous Villa Amelia
May 2010. Just returned from 9 days in Greece. Best holiday ever. We started off with a weekend in Athens just after the fatal demonstration which had caused us some concern but we did not need to worry. Took take the children to all the main sites. What a beautiful city it is. We found the people most friendly and generous. Then on to Villa Amelia. It was perfect. Fabulous views of the Peloponnese from the terrace, close to many sites and sea. Absolutely beautiful villa- tasteful and v well laid out. Our three boys (8/9) never got tired of playing in the pool and garden.
Great family holiday
A wonderful holiday at Villa Amelia, enjoyed by all members of the family. The villa was really well-equipped and perfect for our needs. The cultural sites are a MUST -Palamidi Castle and the Theatre at Epidavrus were impressive. Eating out in the evening at tavernas in Tolo was just what we needed with the children having the sand and sea to entertain them, allowing us to enjoy a good bottle of wine whilst soaking up the view. A very restful experience in a delightful part of Greece.
The Peloponnese never fails to surprise us with its abundance of historical sights, natural beauty and clear blue waters.
The nearby resort of Tolo offers a perfect location for days of sunbathing and relaxed evenings eating in the tavernas set at the edge of the sea.
Places to Visit::
1. Number 1 on the list HAS to be Nafplion. This beautiful, historic town was the first Capital of Greece and several mornings can be spent here exploring the little alleyways, museums and shops. Ice cream is also WONDERFUL here!!
A visit to Palamidi Castle is essential - a wonderful fortress built high above the town which offers a real sense of history and some breath taking views.
Other memorable spots to visit in Nafplion include the tiny Bourtzi Castle located in the sea and accesible via a short boat ride, the Archaelogical Museum of Naplion and the War Museum.
Nafplion also offers some lovely tavernas and fish restaurants for al fresco evening dining.
2. The Ancient Theatre of Epidavros. Built in 340BC.This Theatre can seat 13,000 spectators and has amazing acoustics. Events still take place here throughout the Summer and it is an impressive site to visit.
3. Mycenae. Dates from 1500BC. Important Centre of Civilization of that Period.. Considered to be One of the most Important Archaelogical Sites of Ancient Greece - and just 30 minutes from Villa Amelia!!
4. Maybe you have never thought about the quality of Greek wine.? Visit the Nemea area where there are a choice of wineries to visit - and you may be converted. The drive is also extremely pleasant.
5. From Tolo you could hire a boat to go and find a secluded bay behind one of the islands. A great way to spend the morning. Pack a picnic and explore the area around Tolo bay. We often pass sea lions during these trips.
6. Drive down the coast and pick up a little ferry that will take you to the beautiful islands of Hydra and Spetses. Cars do not run on these islands and they are both delightful and unforgettable.
Tolo:: This resort is just a kilometre away and offers all the essentials for the beach element of your holiday. It has lovely sandy beaches with sun loungers for hire and a full range of water sports available. It provides a variety of restaurants, many on the waterfront, from typical Greek tavernas to Italian bistros. It also has supermarkets, a post office and other useful little internet cafes. We find the locals to be extremely friendly and very helpful. We love to take the children to eat at a taverna on the beach at night. The children eat well and then play in the sand, leaving us to enjoy a good bottle of red!!
