You will find yourself at the doorstep of Burgundy's most picturesque and famous wine making villages such as Pommard, Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Aloxe-Corton, etc. that are now collectively nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The 18th century stone village house, recently restored, has two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and one with twin beds. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, a living room, a wonderful bathroom with a tub and shower, a covered veranda, and a private garden area outside for the exclusive use of our guests. The house is completely private and independent (i.e. we do not live on-site). It dates back to 1789, but has been lovingly restored, furnished, and equipped.

About Laura Bradbury

We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village, where La Maison des Deux Clochers is located. That was 25 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France. I wrote a bestselling memoir entitled 'My Grape Escape' about how we purchased and renovated our first vacation rental in Burgundy.

Laura Bradbury purchased this house in 1997

Guestbook comments from the owner

'I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the house and our stay in Burgundy. I’ve had a desire for quite a while to stay in France for an extended period of time (defined in months, not weeks); now I know where I want that to be. As you’ve discovered, Burgundy is indeed a special place in a special country. We’ve been doing self-catering trips for nearly 20 years now (26 if you count the canal barges), and your house is the most thoughtfully and thoroughly equipped that we’ve encountered. The explicit and complete instructions are wonderful, and I love that you make recommendations and encourage others to do the same.'

Diane & Ken Jacobson, California, USA

'What a wonderful time we are having! Your home is perfect - nothing is missing and the décor is beautiful. I should warn you - you may begin hearing from friends of ours who wish to come here - we'll be raving about it for months I'm sure!'

Comfortable little village house

  • 4 of 5

We loved La Maison des Deux Clochers from the moment we arrived until we left. The description on the website is accurate, and we would highly recommend this house for a couple visiting Burgundy for a few days, or perhaps an artist looking for inspiration for a longer period of time.

The house is lovingly renovated, well equipped, and there's a tiny garden for long summer evenings (also garden furniture and charcoal barbecue with all the trimmings). The house is spotlessly clean, and although other reviewers mentioned the church bells being noisy, we didn't find them so; the windows and shutters provide excellent soundproofing, and anyway the bells ring only between 8-22h.

The location is very good, a few minutes away from Beaune and only a little longer away from Dijon.

Laura and Franck were delightful hosts, even from afar, providing oodles of information and a most delicious bottle of complimentary Burgundy red.

Lovely sitting room, comfortable beds and a nice functional bathroom.

A few things to know when considering this property: you need a car to get around. There are lovely walks through the vineyards available, but you will need a car for everything else.

If you travel with children it might not be ideal. Antique furniture (especially chairs), high sinks (too high for a 4 yo who wants to do everything 'by himself'!), the bedroom layout and the position of the garden (our son could not play there unsupervised because of the distance from the house) make it slightly inconvenient for small children (may be ok for a teenager).

There is no dishwasher (we're amazed they managed to squeeze in so many conveniences in such a tiny space, as it is!) and the counter space for prep in the kitchen is basically non-existent, but I'm guessing most people won't be going to Burgundy to cook daily. Some sort of a coffee preparation method that isn't a coffee filter (a French press or a small stove-top espresso maker) would also be nice (although not essential).

There is a VERY pesky level difference between the hallway and the first bedroom. Although we were warned about it and it was easy enough to negotiate normally, going to the toilet in the middle of the night was an entirely different (and very painful) experience. Do mind your step there ALL THE TIME (or maybe the owners can find a way to address this area!).

Having said that, we loved staying in a much loved, quirky old Burgundian stone house and had a fab holiday.

Great location, plus no surprises!

  • 5 of 5

The owners (Franck and Laura) included every detail regarding directions, activities in the surrounding countryside (and cities.) We found everything to be very clean and in order. Wonderful to have a washer and dryer, after biking for a week in Provence! Peaceful walking to some of the little villages close by. All the brochures that were left for us were very useful in finding our way around. Lunches in Beaune and Nuits-St. George were fabulous!

We would definitely recommend this property, especially to a Family.

CHARMING LITTLE PLACE IN BURGUNDY

  • 4 of 5

Everything was comfortable for two people. The unit was very well equipped with wifi etc., but no English TV

The road noise was bothersome for sleeping. The washer and dryer came in very handy. The parking was convenient. We enjoyed our stay, must say that the region is breathtaking.

Lovely and charming country escape!

  • 4 of 5

This sweet house has all of the charm you're looking for when staying in Burgundy. There are so many beautiful details, including the old tile floors and antique furniture. As other reviews mentioned, you have to walk through one bedroom to get to another, which worked well for us, two adults and one small child, who liked that we were so close. We loved the fact that, despite the old details, the bathroom was very modern and had a North American-style shower/tub. Our daughter loved playing in the gravelly garden and courtyard and with all of the different doors and knobs inside the house.

The location is excellent--a few minutes behind Corton with easy driving access to both the Cote-de-Nuits and Cotes-de-Beaune.

A quick warning: If you're a light sleeper and it's open-window weather, it's worth bringing earplugs. Yes, you're out in the country but the house is named after the two sets of bells that ring in the village. And they ring on the hour throughout the night. The main bedroom window is also set right above the road, which gets a surprising amount of traffic, especially in the very early morning hours when the farmers head to work.

Overall, we loved our time at La Maison des Deux Clochers. Laura and Franck are absolute pros, providing so much great information both at the house and in advance of the trip, including tips about their favorite local, often insidery restaurants, markets and bakeries. They do an incredible job of helping you create the French fantasy.

Charming, cozy & comfortable in heart of Burgundy.

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our stay in "Les Deux Clochers". Franck and Laura provided very clear directions to the village and home, and parking was simple. The home is very well-equipped with a large bathroom with a great tub & shower and with excellent water pressure. Having a W/D in the home was also great, especially when traveling with kids. The kitchen is small, but very functional, with a view out to the cutest, tiniest French village. This is the second time we've stayed in one of Franck & Laura's rentals, and the homes are clean, comfy, with nice beds and linens. Franck & Laura are great about answering questions promptly. Franck gave me great pre-trip logistical advice about airport choices, and drive times. While we were there, Franck even booked a half-day canal boat trip for us, because I didn't trust my French over the phone. This kind of personal service is very rare. This home is ideal for a family of 4. You must walk through the room with 2 twin beds, to get to the room with the queen bed, and since we were a family of 4 with 2 kids, this layout worked fine for us. The location is great for walking through the vineyards to other little villages, and central for all variety of site-seeing in Bourgogne. There are many great restaurants within an easy drive, and of course Beaune is close, which has everything. You feel like you're staying in a real home, with personal touches throughout. We feel this adds to the cultural experience of the trip. I re-read Laura's book 'My Grape Escape' about the restoration of "Les Deux Clochers" WHILE staying there, which made my week even more special! I highly recommend a stay in any of Franck & Laura's homes.

Country Serenity

  • 4 of 5

A wonderful old home in a historic old village.. La Maison des Deux Clochers welcomes you with a lovely terrace with shutters which open onto the courtyard. The house is well equipped and will feel like home. This is my second rental with Franck and Laura and the process is quick, communication great. There are so many wonderful villages and sights to see all within a short distance but you will need a car. I spent 1 week here in June and loved to take short day trips to Nuits Saint George, Lyon, Beaune and all the other little villages. Take time to wander the paths through the vineyards.. the countryside is breathtaking.

I would definitely recommend this rental company and their properties.

Burgundy itself is very central. The house is approximately 600 kilometres from Calais, or a five and a half hour drive. Many of our guests make day trips to Paris using the TGV which leaves from both Beaune and Dijon and reached the Gare de Lyon in Paris in less than two hours. Geneva is only two hours East, Italy and Spain a day's drive, and Provence and the Cote d'Azur only three to four hours South.

If the dates you desire are booked, don't forget to enquire about another rental house we own in a neighbouring village.
