The pretty fishing village of Vinisce is a wonderfully relaxed and peaceful destination on the Dalmatian coast. This area of Croatia is renowned for its wonderful weather, a beautifully craggy coastline, well steeped in history and a lovely Mediterranean ambiance. The village lies at the head of a magical blue cove, with sandy beaches and many charming private holiday apartments scattered through the town. Great accommodation is also found on hillside villas, perched over the village, which offer splendid views of the bay.
Apart from the obvious beach-side pleasures, of sunning on the quiet unspoilt beaches, Vinisce also attracts visitors of a maritime bent. The mile long narrow bay is well sheltered, and perfect for those wanting to mess about on the water. Many who come are keen to try out their fishing skills, maybe have a go at yachting, or even try scuba-diving, amongst the pristine warm blue waters. Canoeing is also popular in this sheltered bay on holidays in Vinisce, but perhaps the marine pleasure that is most widely partaken of, is the eating of the wonderful local seafood at the village's restaurants. The gentle hills surrounding the cove provide plenty of opportunity for secluded walks, and great vistas and the rest of the beautiful Dalmatian coast is only a short drive away.
Vinisce is perfectly placed to explore the rest of the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, with its historic towns, stunning beaches and a popular nearby National Park. Most visitors on holidays in Vinisce make Split one of their must-see locations This ancient city, which is only 20 miles to the east, is well-known as the last resting place of the Roman Emperor, Diocletian: his astonishing palace, built over 17 centuries ago, is incredibly well-preserved, and an essential visit. The nearby town of Trogir is another town weighed down with architectural treasures from empires past, Roman to Venetian and which is also gifted with the splendid St Lawrence Cathedral, and a wonderful medieval town centre.
Vinisce has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. The summer months of June, July and August can be bakingly hot, reaching an average temperature of 30°C, though this is somewhat tempered by occasional sea breezes. Being on the coast, the temperature even in winter is mild, rarely going lower than 15°C. Rainfall is generally light through most of the year, with November and December being the wettest months.
