Looking for a picturesque town in the north of Italy, then Vernazza may well be the perfect choice. There are many things for visitors to do during their stay here with great views, history and culture all in one place. Vernazza is one of five towns in Cinque Terre and is part of the Italian Riviera. The beach here is small but visitors can enjoy this or other beaches and take a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Numerous watersports can be tried in the area such as sailing, fishing, canoeing, diving and snorkelling.Golf is very popular in the region with several courses available for visitors to tackle. With so much scenic beauty to find in the area it is a great place for walking, cycling and horse riding. There are a number of interesting historic buildings in the town. The 14th century Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia is a classic example of Italian architecture. The 15th century Doria Castle and the Shrine of Santuario di Nostra Signora di Reggio and are also well worth visiting. Whilst here, holidaymakers may like to visit the other four villages in the Cinque Terre which are Monterosso al Mare, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Holidaymakers can enjoy a day trip to some other great Italian cities such as Venice, which is a four hour drive away. Milan is about three hours away via the A7 and A12 roads and features some magnificent buildings, not to mention plenty of shops. Here there is the famous San Siro football stadium, which is well worth a visit.
The warmest time of the year to visit Vernazza is generally July and August when the average high temperature is approximately 27 degrees centigrade, while June and September hit a respectable 25 degrees centigrade as well. The wettest month is November with an average of 189mm rain, whilst August is the driest with just 48mm on average for the month.
Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport is approximately a one hour 30 minute drive to Vernazza and has many domestic flights as well as to other cities in Europe. These include Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Malta, London-Gatwick, London-Stanstead and Madrid. Alternatively Galileo Galilei Airport in Pisa is a similar distance from Vernazza but to the south. It offers flights to and from domestic and major European destinations such as Paris, London, Madrid, Munich and Amsterdam. Ryanair has the largest number of flights and destinations. Both airports have car hire firms operating on site including Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Maggiore/National, Sixt and Thifty.
