At just 70km from Genoa and less than three hours drive of the French border, Varese Ligure is a well-positioned destination near the beautiful south coast of Italy. Despite its close proximity to big cities, however, you should not be confused into thinking that Varese Ligure is a busy tourist town. It is in fact a small, rural village hidden away in the masses of dense forest that dominate the Liguria region, making it in ideal hideaway for those seeking a relaxing break.
Peace and tranquillity are big priorities in Varese Ligure, with the village ticked away in the lush forest that covers the region. Many visitors head to this rural part of Italy simply to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet of their holiday or apartment, making the most of their new-found surroundings.
The town itself is dotted with red-roofed buildings, many of which house traditional business purveying local produce. Cheeses are especially important in this part of Italy, and you can consume these with any combination of the crusty breads, hand-made pastas and delicious wines also sold in the village. Tuesday is market day in Varese Ligure, and the place to purchase fresh fish and much more, but a number of restaurants can also be found in the village centre, should you prefer to let someone do the cooking for you.
The Alta Val di Vara National Park is just a short distance from Varese Ligure, and is another destination where you can enjoy the natural surroundings and get away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Walking, hiking and horse riding are just some of the activities on offer here, with a number of well laid-out tracks to follow.
If you head to Varese Ligure simply to relax, you may be content with spending the bulk of your holiday in either your self-catering accommodation or the village centre. If, however, you decide to venture out and explore the region, you will be presented with a plethora of other village and towns to enjoy. Just one suggestion for a day trip is to make the short journey to the coast at the attractive old town of Levanto (36km).

July and August are the hottest months, with daily high temperatures of 28C, whilst the start of the year usually has days of between 6C and 12C. Rainfall is at its lowest during the height of summer, with only 2-3 days of rain per summer month on average.
Varese Ligure is conveniently close (59km) to Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), meaning you will not have to spend several hours getting to and from your holiday rental accommodation in Varese Ligure. The airport takes just over an hour to reach from the UK, and receives flights from various London airports through British Airways and Ryanair.
