Holidaymakers looking for an exciting and scenic part of Germany should pay a visit to the Upper Lusatia / Lower Silesia area. The city of Dresden is just over an hour’s drive from Gorlitz and features many great places of interest such as Dresden Castle and Zwinger Palace. Excursions to the Czech Republic are also available including day trips to the lovely city of Liberec.

Winters are cold with January averaging just 2 degrees centigrade during the day and -3 at night although this can be much colder higher up in the mountains with snow quite plentiful. Dresden Airport (DRS) is just over an hour’s drive from Gorlitz in Upper Lusatia / Lower Silesia. Flights arrive in Dresden from many German airports including Cologne/Bonn (CGN), Frankfurt (FRA), Hamburg (HAM) and Munich (MUC) amongst others. ADAC, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt are car rental firms located at the arrivals level in the airport terminal. Alternatively overseas visitors can fly to Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ), which is about two hours and 15 minutes from Gorlitz. Flights arrive here from Istanbul-Ataturk (IST), London-Stansted (STN), Rome-Ciampino (CIA) and Vienna (VIE) amongst others. There are also car rental firms located at Leipzig Airport.
