The municipality of Tias is the main tourist destination in Lanzarote, and overlooking the regions hot-spot of Puerto del Carmen is the town of Tias. With its well-known neighbour taking the lion’s share of the visitor’s attentions, a holiday rental villas or apartment in Tias is a great place from which to enjoy a relaxing break – close enough to join in the fun, but far away enough that you have a relaxing base to retreat to after a long day.
Tias is an increasingly popular destination for ex-pats, and due to this, amenities have improved considerably over the last few years, with a number of supermarkets and shops, a deli market, a post office, and several good bars and restaurants all present in the town. This also means that Tias has become a desirable destination in its own right, with a recently constructed golf course only adding to the prestige of the town.
Tias is regarded as an important cultural centre, with the Municipal Theatre hosting a wide variety of events through the year, including jazz festivals and folk events. June is an important time in the town’s calendar, with a number of festivals through the first two weeks of the month, culminating in the spectacular Festival of San Juan.
Those seeking something a bit more refined can pay a visit to a number of historical landmarks, including the 18th century Church of Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria, the Church of San Antonio, the old houses of Casa Pascacia and Casa Parroquial, and even the old cemetery.
Even if you are seeking a relaxing break it is highly recommended that you spend at least one day in nearby Puerto del Carmen. The busy tourist hub has some of the island’s finest sandy beaches, a wide variety of water sports to enjoy, a busy nightlife and some superb restaurants. Another option is to explore the many smaller, traditional fishing villages along the coast, some of which (such as Playa Blanca) attract tourists, whilst others remain largely untouched.
Lanzarote is one of the few places in Europe that can claim to have excellent weather all through the year. With summer average temperatures of above 27C, and mild winters that are rarely below 16C, you vacation in Tias can be enjoyed in any month. Try a July break for the peak holiday season, or December for some much-needed winter sun.
Tias enjoys excellent airport access, as it is lies just 6km from the Aeropuerto de Lanzarote (ACE) in Arrecife. Taxi fares are relatively cheap on the island, and will have you at your holiday rental accommodation in Tias within minutes of you collecting your luggage.
