Holidaymakers looking for wonderful beaches by the Pacific Ocean may like to try Tamarindo in Costa Rica. Situated on the northwest coast of this Central American country, there are some beautiful places to visit here and plenty of exciting activities to try. For the adventurous tourists there are opportunities for guided cave tours or canopy tours over the jungle treetops. There are many bars and restaurants in Tamarindo, with a variety of cuisine including Costa Rican, Italian, seafood and vegetarian. Several shops can be found here too with a range of souvenirs such as crafts and pottery. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food from one of several bakeries and a vegetable market located here.
Numerous excursions are offered to tourists with so many naturally wonderful features here including the Baula National Park, where there is a great abundance of wildlife. Tours also take visitors to the nearby Playa Grande and Playa Langosta, which are nesting areas of giant leather back turtles. Arts and crafts are an important aspect of life here and there is an art gallery in Tamarindo. Santa Cruz is an historic town well worth visiting as well, as there are great festivals, dances, rodeos and fiestas held here.
The climate in Tamarindo is good all year round with the dry season generally between November and April and next to no rainfall between December and February. The rainy season begins in late April or early May and continues through October, a month which averages 48 inches. Temperatures can range from a high of 35 degrees centigrade and a low of 20 centigrade with March and April the warmest months on average.
Tamarindo Airport (TNO) is serviced daily from San José and Liberia by SANSA and Nature Air. Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia is approximately a 45 minute drive from Tamarindo and has flights to and from Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada; Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Miami and Newark in the U.S; Brussels in Belgium. Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San Jose has flights to and from Montreal, Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Newark, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Frankfurt and Madrid as well as several other destinations in Central and South America. Taxis are available from all airports and car hire firms are located at the Liberia and San Jose airports.
