Sunset Beach resort is situated on the North Shore of Oahu, the third largest island in Hawaii. The ideal getaway destination for romantic holidays, Sunset Beach certainly lives up to its name by providing holidaymakers with picture perfect sunsets. Sunset Beach is also one of the most popular surfing destinations in Hawaii, featuring great waves, especially in the winter. When not relaxing on the beach, or enjoying your Sunset Beach rental home, there are plenty of other attractions nearby to experience too.
As you might expect, the main attraction when staying in a Sunset Beach holiday rental home is the beach itself! The wide sandy beaches are lined with palm trees and are perfect for soaking up the warm Hawaiian sun until the waters of the Pacific Ocean invite you in to cool off. Obviously swimming is a favourite pastime, and though you can enjoy the surf throughout the year it is winter time that Sunset Beach really comes into its own as a great surfing destination. Experienced surfers can ride wintertime waves which can reach as high as 25 to 50 feet! Then there are the highly sought after surfing competitions held in the area too.
The gentle and warm tradewinds which breeze across Sunset Beach means beach lovers should never get overly hot here, and are perfect for trying windsurfing. From your Sunset Beach resort rental you can also look out for whales and dolphins, playing a little way off shore. You may even come across some giant sea turtles further along the beach.
The best thing about renting a holiday home in Sunset Beach is that there are plenty of other attractions and places to visit nearby. Just one mile from Sunset Beach is Waimea Falls; a beautiful waterfall set within the historical nature park called the Waimea Valley. Visitors can also enjoy the great collection of Polynesian and Hawaiian plants being grown here, and see historical archaeological sites too.
The nearest town to Sunset Beach resort is the historical small town of Hailewa. Hailewa is the perfect place to come to have a break from self-catering, as the town has a variety of good restaurants to eat at. You can also enjoy a spot of shopping here, stroll around the marina, or even join a crew on a deep sea fishing trip.
Sunset Beach, Hawaii has a subtropical climate that varies little in temperature throughout the year, making this a great destination for a holiday rental all year round. Even in the middle of winter it is warm with a high of 26C and a low of 16C, and in the height of summer this rises to between 19.5C and 30.5C. Being on the windward coast, short showers are common most days.
Although there is a small airport about 25 miles from Sunset Beach, most visitors will arrive at Hawaii’s main international airport at Honolulu (HNL) from which it is about an hour and a half drive to Sunset Beach. Many airlines offer flights which will usually travel via Los Angeles.
