Holidaymakers looking for a fun packed vacation near the coast in Northern Europe might like to give St. Marten in Holland a try. This fantastic village is located in the province of North Holland and is a good base for nearby attractions and activities. Alkmaar is just a 25 minute drive from St. Maarten and has several museums such as the cheese museum and the Alkmaar Municipal Museum. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the city is the cheese market at the Waagplein. The capital city Amsterdam and The Hague are within easy reach by car and are well worth a visit. In spring time a must see place is Keukenhof in Lisse, which is an 80 acre park of winding paths, gurgling streams, placid ponds and magnificent flowering bulbs including tulips, daffodils and hyacinths.
The warmest time of the year in this part of Holland is July and August when the average high temperature is 21 degrees centigrade. Winters are cold with January and February averaging just a high of 6 degrees centigrade and a low of 1 degree. October is usually the wettest month of the year with an average of 100mm rainfall, but rain can fall any time of the year.
St. Maarten is just 65 kilometres from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). Flights arrive in Amsterdam from many international cities via various airlines including the largest one based here, KLM. Those cities include Athens, Berlin, Dubai, Geneva, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Toronto and Washington amongst many others.
