With endless, white sandy beaches, it is a perfect spot to grab a good book and some sunscreen and spend much of your holiday relaxing on the beach. For those who do want something to do, there are plenty of choices. There are wonderful golf courses nearby as well as the chance for many water sports including kayaking, swimming and fishing. Go SCUBA diving and see vibrant coral reefs, sting rays and other exciting marine life. Of course, you will need to be SCUBA certified to go diving, but there are other activities for those who are not, such as snorkelling. A ride in the Atlantis Submarine just might be the highlight of your holiday in St. Lucy. The submarine will go down about 17 metres where you will be able to see marine life as they were meant to be seen. Next, you’ll go even deeper to see a shipwreck that rests off of the coast of Barbados. If the ride in the submarine is a bit too adventurous for your tastes, you can choose to see marine life by riding in a glass bottom boat instead.
There are also beautiful places to hike and wonderful restaurants where you can eat the freshest seafood and partake of a frosty island drink.
St. Nicholas Abbey is the oldest home on the island. Built in 1650, it was actually built as a private home and, despite the name, was never an abbey. It is open to visitors and is decorated with period pieces for furniture to give you a look at what the home may have looked like when it was first built. The Wildlife Reserve Tour gives you a chance to see some more of the gorgeous scenery on the island as well as get an up close look at some Barbados monkeys.
The weather in St. Lucy is one of the reasons that so many choose this for a holiday spot. No matter what time of year you visit, warm, tropical weather will greet you. The average daytime temperature is between 25 and 37 degrees all year round. Whilst that may sound a bit too warm to some, know that a breeze is nearly always blowing off of the sea, making the air feel much cooler.
