St Croix, also known as Saint-Croix, is the largest of the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It is an unincorporated territory belonging to the United States.
The island of Saint-Croix has beautiful beaches on the coast and a rugged mountain interior. It offers plenty to see and do for visitors staying in luxury holiday villas. St Croix has three golf courses considered some of the best in the Caribbean. The Carambola Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. There are fantastic opportunities to hike through the rainforest with its vines, mahogany and mango trees. Cane Bay Beach, west of Christiansted, is a great beach for swimming or take a kayak trip around Salt River Bay Park and see where Columbus landed in 1493. You will find plenty of opportunities for scuba diving, fishing, sailing and snorkeling from your peaceful St Croix holiday rental.
Point Udall is on the eastern tip of the island, marking the easternmost point of the US. Hike around this arid area and see the cactus and flora that survives in this desert-like environment. A short drive from your St Croix holiday villa will bring you to Divi Casino, the only casino on the USVI. At sunset, Frederiksted is a great place to enjoy the glorious sunset. Buck Island is just off the main island of St Croix and can be reached on a boat trip which includes snorkeling in one of the few underwater national parks in the US.
Like most of the Caribbean, Saint-Croix holiday rentals enjoy a tropical climate with very little change in temperature throughout the year. The island has average highs of 32°C (90°F) in the summer months and lows of 23-29°C (73-84°F) in the winter months. St Croix has most tropical rain showers in late summer and relatively dry winters. It averages 8-10 hours of sunshine every day and 40 inches of rainfall per annum. While the eastern end is dry and desert-like, the west of the island is lush and green.
Holiday rentals in St Croix are served by the Henry E. Rohlsen (STX) airport which is located 6 miles southwest of Christiansted. This small airport handles mostly inter-Caribbean flights from other islands on its single runway but it can accommodate airplanes up to the size of Boeing 747s. Direct flights to St Croix can be booked with American Airlines from Miami, Delta from Atlanta, US Airways (seasonally) from Charlotte as well as Jet Blue, American Eagle or Cape Air from San Juan. It is very easy to get a local taxi to your St Croix villa or hire a car from the airport.
