Speracedes may not be as widely known as its more illustrious near-neighbours of Cannes, Antibes and Grasse, but if you are seeking a more peaceful base from which to explore this rich and varied region, this hillside village may be your best option. Speracedes is reached via a narrow road that winds its way uphill, and as you ascend through the olive groves and dense woodland you will begin to unwind and prepare yourself for a truly relaxing vacation.
The countryside that surrounds Speracedes is typical of the region, being a covering of cypresses and olive trees situated on climbing hillsides. The best way of appreciating this stunning scenery is to make an uphill hike to the Speracedes Cross, from where far-reaching and panoramic views can be enjoyed of all the way to Cannes and the surrounding coast.
The residents of Speracedes have always enjoyed a healthy rivalry with those of the nearby settlement of Cabris, and although the locals may tell you to avoid the neighbouring village like the plague, making the short trip is actually highly recommended! You can, of course, take the car, but cycling or walking the 2.5 km route takes just a matter of minutes and is a much more rewarding (and healthier!) option.
Due to its small size Speracedes has a limited number of amenities, but those that visit during peak tourist times should have little problem enjoying a meal in a local restaurant or stocking up supplies in their holiday villa.
The ancient fortified village of St Cezaire-sur-Siagne is just 8km from Speracedes, and has an array of historical and natural attractions that belie its relatively small size. The best day to visit is Saturday, when the local produce market is in full swing and some excellent food and wine can be purchased and bargain prices. Further afield, the famous cities of the French Riviera, such as Cannes (24km) and Antibes (33km), can be reached in little over half an hour.
The most popular times for a holiday in a Speracedes holiday rental villa and apartment is the months of May and September, along with the entire summer season. If you book early and manage to get your holiday accommodation for these months you are likely to be rewarded with sunshine and hot temperatures of up to and over 30°C, so remember to pack the sunscreen!
Speracedes is perhaps most easily reached via a flight to Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE), 43km away, followed the a short journey in a rental car. The use of a car is advised to make the most of your stay in the region, as it will allow you to see and do far more than you would be able to by public transport alone.
