South Thomaston is a town situated in the Knox County of the state of Maine. Its initial inhabitants gave it a name that translates to ‘tidal creek’ and it is a place blessed with a rich diversity of flora and fauna. There is also plenty to keep history buffs engaged, especially in the Wessaweskeag Historical Society. Paddling out to Whitehead Island is always recommended for anyone who finds themselves in this part of Maine, provided the weather is good. It is secluded and wooded and has many fantastic picnic spots.

The temperate weather of this locale is highly conducive for holidaying. During summertime, between June and August, warm pleasant weather with average temperatures of between 24 and 27°C are experienced. After September temperatures drop quite steeply and by November average highs are at just 4°C. But at its coldest, winter sees temperatures up to 10 degrees below freezing. South Thomaston experiences a fairly good amount of rainfall with most months receiving at least 100mm of rain on average.
The closest airport to South Thomaston is the Knox County Regional Airport (just under 2 miles away) which receives scheduled and chartered flights from other parts of the US. Currently only Cape Air provides scheduled passenger services to this airport from Boston. Penobscot Island Air has chartered flights to and from North Haven, Swans Island and other locales within the states. Most visitors opt to land at the Bangor International Airport which welcomes regular scheduled flights from New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Florida and Washington. It is 54 miles from South Thomaston, however.
