Located deep in the south of the Languedoc Roussillon department of France. Sorede could not be any closer to Spain without being in the country. A holiday rental in Sorede gives you the best of both worlds due to its fantastic location; within easy reach of both the beaches Mediterranean coast and the peaks of the Pyrenees Mountains of Alberes.
It is hard to know where to start with a summary of things to do in Sorede. There is a small lake at the end of the village, which provides an idyllic base for a refreshing swim in the summer months or an afternoon of fishing.
A huge number of people arrive at a Sorede villa with the express intention of loosing a week by relaxing on the fine sand of a Mediterranean beach, and there is ample opportunity to do so. The beaches of both Argeles and Collioure can be easily reached from a holiday home in Sorede, which also offer a huge range of water sports, including sailing, windsurfing and the new favourite in Languedoc-Roussillon, kite surfing.
The nearby slopes of the Pyrenees are a veritable playground too. There are endless routes through the mountains which take in both stunning viewpoints over the coast, the mountains and into Spain, and many spectacular little historic buildings which litter the mountains. Walking, mountain biking and horse riding holidays absolutely thrive from holiday accommodation in Sorede, and there are a huge number of centres offering guided tours, equipment hire and advise on how best to tackle the towering peaks which back the village. If you are feeling adventurous, a magnificent way to see the region is from the cradle of a para-glider!
In winter, the ski resorts of the Pyrenees are just 90 minutes away, meaning that you can ski in the morning, return to your Sorede accommodation and nip to the beach in the afternoon!
The beach resort of Collioure is just 8km from a Sorede holiday home. The town is a picturesque maze of Catalan style streets, which are filled with attractions from galleries to top class restaurants. Collioure is known as the ‘gem of the Languedoc-Roussillon coast’ for many reasons, including the charming character of the town, the exceptional beach upon which the town stands and the stunning scenery which has attracted so many artists and writers to the area. The town is also a fantastic base for scuba diving, sailing and deep sea fishing trips.
Each year, Sorede bathes in 320 days of sunshine, which is simply staggering. Temperatures in summer average around 27°C, with daily peaks easily into the 30’s, making the Mediterranean beaches a huge asset. In winter, despite the proximity of the Pyrenees ski resorts, temperatures remain mild, with temperatures averaging over 10°C in the coldest month, January.
The Perpignan Llabanere Airport (PGF) is within half an hour of a holiday rental in Sorede. Although Perpignan is not a major transport route from the UK, BMIbaby, Flybe and Ryanair provide flights from Manchester (MAN), Southampton (SOU) and Stansted (STN) respectively, meaning your Sorede accommodation is not as far away as you might think. Spain's Girona airport (GRO) is only an hour's drive away, and provides flights from UK and European airports via low cost airlines.
