This resort is located on the north of the island and is a great location with many interesting things to do and see. Silver Sands is regarded by many as the finest beach in Jamaica with its white sandy beaches making it an ideal spot for sunbathing. The beautiful blue sea is very inviting for swimming and various watersports can be tried here. This is thought to be one of the best places in Jamaica for surfing. Golf is very popular here and there are five championship calibre courses within 30 minutes drive from Silver Sands, while the resort also has tennis courts. The resort has some wonderful places for hikers, horse riders and cyclists to roam with palm trees, bougainvillea and poinsettias decorating the area. Fishing is possible too with deep sea fishing trips offered to tourists. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks from a local grocery store. Island Village and Ocean Village have numerous shops and restaurants and there are other areas where gifts and souvenirs can be purchased. The resort has some bars and restaurants with some fine Caribbean cooking and wonderful seafood dishes.
Some areas of natural beauty can be seen near Silver Sands, and one definitely worth seeing is Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios. In the same area is Dolphin Cove where holidaymakers can swim with dolphins. The underground tour of Green Grotto Caves is a fascinating trip taking visitors back in time when they were shelter to the Arawak Indians. Shaw Botanical Gardens is an excellent place to see with some wonderful tropical plants. Prospect Plantation is a great house and gardens with a petting zoo, aviary and butterfly house as well.
The temperature on the island remains fairly constant throughout the year with an average daytime high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit in the hottest months of July and August and 82 degrees in the coolest month of February. The dry season is January to June with tropical rainstorms sometimes in the hurricane season between June and October. There is an average of seven and a half inches of rainfall in the wettest month of October.
Silver Sands is approximately 40 kilometres from the nearest airport, which is Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay. There are flights to and from numerous cities worldwide including Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London, Madrid, New York, Rome and Toronto amongst others. Two taxi firms are based at the airport as well as several car rental firms located in the Ground Transportation Arrivals Hall after exiting Customs and include Avis, Budget International, Champagne, Hertz, Island, Jamaica and Sunbird.
