Nantucket is an upmarket summer colony and tourist destination and during the summer the population rises from 10,000 to around 50,000. The island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has one of the highest concentrations of pre-Civil War buildings in the US when it was initially developed as a whaling port in the early 19th century. Siasconset is a quiet village on the eastern side of the island of Nantucket. It has an elevation of just 16m (52 feet) and offers some excellent holiday home rentals.
There are a number of paths and trails on Nantucket Island and one of the best is the Long Pond Trail which is a scenic 1.25 mile nature trail. Golf

Excellent surfing for experienced boarders can be found at Madaquecham Beach. It is a fairly quiet and remote beach with a strong undertow. The beach closest to your Siasconset holiday rental is also good for surfing. Pristine beaches for windsurfing and kayaking can be found on the north side of the island.
Built in 1850, this distinctive brick lighthouse stands on the headland and is one of the landmarks of Siasconset. It is now fenced off as the nearby cliff and Bluff Walk has been eroded away, but the drive to the headland and the sea views are stunning.
This is Nantucket’s oldest residence and it dates back to 1686. Tours are available of this historic home which was the home of Jethro Coffin, grandson of one of the first white settlers. He died in 1727 and his trade was recorded as a blacksmith.
This interesting Whaling Museum explains the history of Nantucket’s whaling industry with an excellent exhibition and views of Nantucket harbour from the rooftop observation deck. It is located in a former candle-making factory which was built in 1847.
Nantucket is well known for its gorgeous summer temperatures of around 24°C (76°F) with soft sea breezes. Winters are cold but daytime highs remain above freezing due to the maritime location of your Siasconset holiday home.

Flights to and from Boston, Hyannis, Martha’s Vineyard, JFK and La Guardia (New York), Philadelphia and Washington DC are seasonal. The main international airport is Boston Logan airport which is 80 miles away.
