Make a self catering villa or holiday rental in Serbia your home away from home

Serbia offers a wide range of holidays, from its beaches on the Adriatic Sea to the mountain pastures and woodlands in the north and east. The capital, Belgrade, offers a taste of culture with its many museums and wonderful architecture and the country also has some beautiful unspoilt scenery. The official language is Serbo-Croatian and visitors will see the Cyrillic script around the country. The currency is the New Dinar.

Things to Do in Serbia

Exploring the local area is part of any self-catering holiday in Serbia. The cities are easy to explore on foot or join a guided walking tour. Dining out is a pleasure in Belgrade's old bohemian quarter. You can also enjoy a romantic meal as you cruise down the Danube on a floating restaurant. Belgrade has some excellent museums and galleries to visit including the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Ethnographical Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Nikola Tesla Museum. Take a trip along Serbia's wine route where wine has been made for over 2000 years. The Palic Wine Route follows the "Wines from the Sands" but there are other wine routes in Vrsac, Oplenac and Zupa. Hiking in Serbia's hill country and bird watching are additional things to enjoy from your Serbia holiday rental. The Fruska Gora hills has miles of woodland trails. A great way to see the countryside is on the Sargan Eight Railway at Mokra Gora. The 2 mile (3.5km) journey up the mountain takes an hour!

Places to Visit in Serbia

Those staying in a holiday rental in Serbia's capital, Belgrade, will want to explore the Old Town. Visit Kalemegdan Park and the Belgrade Fortress overlooking the Danube and Sava rivers. The main landmarks are the Orthodox Cathedral (Saborna Crkva) and the Turkish-style residence of Princess Ljubica's Konak. Beyond Belgrade, Nis is one of the best places to visit with its Turkish Fortress, Skull Tower and ruins of the Roman town of Mediana. Novi Sad, Serbia's second city, has many cultural attractions and churches and the Monastery of Zica is where the kings of Serbia once were crowned. Serbia has several national parks, including the 158,000 acre Djerdap National Park. Its main attractions are the gorges of the Djerdap river valley.

Weather in Serbia

Serbia has a moderate continental climate inland, and a Mediterranean climate along its coastline. Generally the coast is drier than the inland areas and much warmer. Expect temperatures to reach 26°C (79°F) in July on the coast, but just 19°C (66°F) further inland. Temperatures at just above freezing on the coast in January, and well below freezing with snowfall on the mountains.

Travel to Serbia

The main airport in Belgrade is the Nikola Tesla (BEG) Airport which is 18km (11 miles) west of the city. Those staying in a Serbia holiday rental in the southeast of the country may find the Constantine the Great (INI) Airport at Nis more convenient, particularly when visiting Serbia's ski resorts.
