Taunton is a charming local town in Somerset with a high street of shops and banks, a cinema, bowling alley and a horse racing course nearby. There are several notable pubs in the area serving local cider and pub food. The town has an interesting history, including being involved in the Civil War and Monmouth’s Rebellion. The older streets and houses around the church date back to the 18th century. The area offers plenty of activities, with Exmoor and the North Devon coast just a short drive away.

The area has many small local museums including the Somerset Rural life Museum and the Shoe Museum at Street. The Somerset County Museum is housed in a former castle at Taunton and has plenty of local exhibits recounting the history of this lovely area.
This popular attraction is at Three Bridges just outside Taunton. It shows how local cider is made and has a museum of farm equipment including an old cider press. Videos, crafts, walks and a gift shop selling scrumpy and cider make this a great day out.
