Sheviock is a small hamlet in southeast Cornwall, close to historic St Germans and the town of Saltash. It is bordered on one side by the Lynher River and on the other by the sea. The Parish Church of St Mary has stood in the village since the 13th century and two late 14th century tombs are thought to be of the local Courtenay family. The village makes an ideal centre from which to explore this unspoilt area on foot, bicycle or by car.
Each of the small villages has at least one pub with a historic ambience, local ales and great home-cooked meals. Golf
A round of golf is an excellent way to enjoy the sea air and magnificent coastal views from some of the local golf clubs. Whitsand Bay Golf Club is less than a mile away; Looe Golf Club is 6 miles and the China Fleet Country Club Golf Course is 5 miles from your Sheviock holiday rental near Saltash. Beaches
The south coast of Cornwall has some of the best beaches in England. Whitsand Bay, just 3 miles from your Sheviock holiday cottage, stretches for 4 miles at low tide. Access is down a steep path through the MOD rifle range so check the red flags are not flying! Cawsand Bay and Looe Bay are a little further away but both have lovely beaches and safe bathing.
The lovely Mount Edgecumbe House and Country Park was built by Sir Richard Edgecumbe of Cotehele in 1547. It is right on the coast with magnificent views across Plymouth Sound to Plymouth Naval Docks. Enjoy walking along the coastal path, exploring the gardens, picnicking on the sloping lawns and touring the historic house.
This unique project is located in a former clay pit and is one of Britain’s most acclaimed attractions. It has giant biomes which create different climates and grow tropical and Mediterranean plants in a re-created setting complete with tropical jungle, waterfall and full-size trees. A café and outdoor gardens make this an excellent day out. Cotehele
This historic Tudor House offers guided tours around its antique furnishings and dark wood-panelled rooms. It is best known for its collection of tapestries which festoon the walls. The gardens include formal terraces, a valley garden, an orchard and a pretty dovecote. Cotehele also has an 18th century folly tower which has great views from the top.
Located in the southwest of England and influenced by the Gulf Stream, Cornwall generally has mild winters along the coast and reasonably warm summers. Average temperatures throughout the year range from 8-19°C (46-66°F) with the heaviest rain showers between October and February.
Cornwall is served by the local airport at Plymouth which has regular flights from all over England. The area is also accessible by rail to Saltash station, just 5 miles from your holiday home rental at Sheviock. However, a car is recommended to make the most of this delightful area.
